Davis Returns To Charter As VP Technical Operations

Wayne Davis is once again working for Charter Communications, which has named the 30-year cable industry veteran vice president of technical operations.

Davis previously joined Charter in 2001 as vice president of engineering for the Western division. He eventually rose to become the MSO's chief technology officer and executive vice president of engineering and technical operations before leaving in 2006.

In his new role, Davis reports to Charter president of operations Steve Apodaca. Davis will focus on servicing and fulfilling customers' needs, as well as ensuring the high-quality delivery of services. His appointment was reported Monday by Light Reading.

In a statement, Apodaca called Davis "a passionate leader with a proven track record of driving growth and building high performing technical operations organizations."

Davis, a longtime Colorado resident, is based in Charter's Denver office.
He left Charter in 2006 and the following year joined spectrum-expansion vendor Vyyo as CEO. Subsequently Vyyo reorganized, with its backers forming a new company called Javelin Innovations -- where Davis also was CEO -- that was pursuing a strategy to license the technology to other manufacturers rather than sell products directly to MSOs.

Prior to his previous stint at Charter, he was vice president of engineering for Comcast after it acquired Jones Intercable, where Davis spent 15 years in various engineering roles.

In March, Charter CTO Marwan Fawaz stepped down from his position. Former Cox Communications CTO Chris Bowick will serve as interim CTO, advising executive vice president of technology and president of commercial services Don Detampel, Charter said.
