Cox's Rolls Takes Over As SCTE Cable-Tec Expo Program Chair

The Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers announced that Cox Communications senior vice president of technology Jay Rolls will chair the program committee for the 2010 Cable-Tec Expo this fall, taking over the role after Cox CTO Scott Hatfield departed the MSO last month.

Cable-Tec Expo, billed as the cable industry's largest engineering show, is scheduled for Oct. 20-22, 2010, at New Orleans' Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. The event is part of Cable Connection - Fall along with the CTAM Summit.

"The continued contributions of the cable operator community and its leading technologists are among the cornerstones of Cable-Tec Expo's educational foundation," SCTE president and CEO Mark Dzuban said in a statement. "We're grateful to Cox and to Jay for making the corporate and personal commitments that will ensure Cable-Tec Expo's continued leadership role in driving engineering best practices and technology innovation."

Rolls commented, "SCTE Cable-Tec Expo has always been and continues to be the industry's premier forum for engineering thought leadership and the showcasing of new technology. I'm pleased to be able to play such an active role in this year's event, and look forward to working with the Program Committee to host an event that delivers the best possible results for all members of the cable community."

Rolls, who leads the team at Cox responsible for all new technology development, joined the MSO in 1995 as director of multimedia technology.

The 2009 Cable-Tec Expo in Denver drew 9,000 attendees, down 18% from the previous year's record-setting turnout of 11,000 in Philadelphia.
