Covering the Policy Map

David Goodfriend, 39

Echostar Communications

David Goodfriend has been all over the policy map. In the early 1990s he cut his teeth working for Rep. Charles Rangel (D-N.Y.) and Sen. Herb Kohl (D-Wisc.). Coupled with telecommunications work at law firm Willkie Farr & Gallagher, Goodfriend’s experience eventually brought him to the White House, where he served as deputy staff secretary under President Clinton.

In 1999, he was named media legal advisor to Federal Communications Commission member Susan Ness, and for two years advised on all cable, satellite and broadcast matters before the FCC. He also co-founded Air America Radio.

Since joining EchoStar Communications, Goodfriend has spanned the legal, programming and business development departments. He now represents the company before Congress and federal and state agencies as vice president of law and public policy.

“Even at a time when new technologies and business models are changing the media industries, EchoStar consistently challenges conventional assumptions and brings consumers what they want,” said Goodfriend. “I aspire to bring that same spirit of innovation and creativity to my role as a public policy advocate for our subscribers.”
