Fox Sports en Español said Thursday that ratings rose 16% for its coverage of the final match of the Copa Toyota Libertadores soccer tournament.
The July 1 game -- in which Colombian underdog Once Caldas upset defending champion Boca Juniors of Argentina -- earned a 6.5 Nielsen Media Research household-coverage rating, versus a 5.6 for last year’s final.
The match also attracted 193,000 households, compared with 115,000 in 2003.
“We expect to build on this year’s success and sell out our entire inventory for Copa Toyota Libertadores in 2005,” Fox Sports en Español senior vice president of advertising sales Tom Maney said in a prepared statement.
