Conexant Buys Zarlink's Packet-Switching Unit

published Chip-maker Conexant Systems acquired Zarlink Semiconductor's packet-switching business unit for $5 million in cash, Conexant announced Wednesday.
The Zarlink packet-switching product line includes a range of Fast Ethernet aggregation switches for network access equipment.
"The acquisition of Zarlink's packet-switching business allows us to further strengthen our DSL [digital-subscriber-line] technology portfolio and market-leading presence in broadband-access markets," said Akram Atallah, general manager of Conexant's Broadband Access business, in a prepared statement.
