Comcast, Time Warner Reach OCAP Deals

Comcast and Time Warner Cable reached agreements to license OpenCable Applications Platform intellectual property and obtain security certificates for OCAP applications, Cable Television Laboratories announced Wednesday.

The agreements include a patent license from Via Licensing for essential patents required to implement OCAP, CableLabs added.

The cable industry’s research-and-development arm also announced that Comcast, Time Warner, Cox Communications and Charter Communications obtained OCAP-code-verification signing certificates.

OCAP is the middleware specification CableLabs established to enable application writers to create new interactive services that will run on a broad range of advanced digital set-tops and cable-ready TVs.
