Comcast has hired Ted Grauch, currently Nagravision's senior vice president of consumer electronics, to a newly created position to develop the company's strategy for set-tops and other video customer-premises technology.
Grauch will start with the cable operator in early January with the title of vice president of video premises technology, responsible for the technology roadmap covering RNG, digtal transport adapters (DTAs) and hybrid set-top boxes. He will report to Comcast senior vice president of premises technology Steve Reynolds in the office of the CTO.
"It's a great opportunity," Grauch said in an interview with Multichannel News. "When [Comcast CTO] Tony [Werner] calls, you answer the phone."
At Nagravision, Grauch was in charge of licensing the company's security technology to set-top and system-on-a-chip vendors. Chuck Higgins will take over Grauch's duties at Nagravision.
Grauch joined Nagravision in 2001, when the company bought Livewire, a consulting firm he co-founded in 1995 and ran as CEO at the time of the acquisition. Prior to Livewire, he worked at Scientific-Atlanta, BellSouth and the U.S. government's National Security Agency.
Grauch has been based in Atlanta with Nagravision and said he's relocating to Philadelphia.
