Comcast, DirecTV Say YES to HD Yanks

Comcast Corp. and DirecTV Inc. have signed pacts with regional Yankees Entertainment & Sports Network to televise New York Yankees Major League Baseball games in HDTV this season.

YES chief operating officer Ray Hopkins said the distributors are on board for the net’s initial season of HD coverage, which includes all 64 homes games it will televise this year, as well as five road contests against the world champion Boston Red Sox and a single tilt versus the crosstown rival New York Mets. Coverage begins with the opener against the Bosox Sunday night April 3.

The 70 Bronx Bombers HD games will be presented in 1080i format, replete with Dolby 5.1 sound.

Hopkins said HD negotiations are continuing with other YES distributors.
