Comcast Celebrates 20 Billion On-Demand Views

For Comcast, 20 billion can't be wrong.
The nation's largest distributor said its customers have accessed 20 billion entertainment choices since it bowed its on-demand service in 2003. Comcast, which reached 11 billion on-demand views in 2009, said it was the first company to reach that mark in the TV industry.
Eight years ago, Comcast rolled out its on-demand offers with 740 movies, music videos and cartoons from a handful of content providers to half of its subscriber base. Today, those choices have grown exponentially, with almost 25,000 options available to some 20 million of its customers.
"On Demand was the first technology to give millions of our customers instant access to entertainment choices to watch on their schedule," said Marcien Jenckes, senior vice president and general manager of video services at Comcast in announcing the milestone. "By making a huge library of content available for free with a click of the remote, On Demand was an instant hit and continues to drive viewership."
In late June, Comcast will proffer a sweepstakes to celebrate the 20 billion on-demand views, affording participants a chance to win a grand prize package, which includes a walk-on role on NBC's 30 Rock plus a Universal Orlando Resort vacation and tickets to a Universal Pictures premiere and after-party.

To commemorate the content that has fashioned this achievement, Comcast has established Xfinity On Demand Awards, honor the most-watched movies of its on demand service, as well as TV series, music artists and other content. The company didn't break up the specific number of views.
Among the winners: The Hangover (most-viewed recent movie release); Southpark (most-viewed TV series); Beyonce (most-viewed music artist); and The Yule Log (overall 3D program). See the full list below.
