Comcast Adds Own Sports Net in York, Pa.

Comcast’s acquired cable system in York County, Pennsylvania, is adding Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia as of Dec. 30, The York Dispatch reported in a column headlined “York County Philly fans have much to celebrate with new cable package.”

Columnist Steve Heiser wrote: "After a decade of begging, pleading and complaining, their voices were finally heard. It was a decision that was long overdue. For years, local Philadelphia fans were treated like second-class citizens by cable officials, who insisted that Comcast Philly was too expensive to add to the cable package.”

The cable system in York, located about 100 miles from Philadelphia, already carries Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic, the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network and Fox Sports Pittsburgh, the paper reported. Comcast Mid-Atlantic carries the National Basketball Association’s Washington Wizards and the National Hockey League’s Washington Capitals; MASN carries the Major League Baseball teams Baltimore Orioles and Washington Nationals; and Fox Sports Pittsburgh carries MLB Pittsburgh Pirates and NHL Pittsburgh Penguins games.

But local Phillies fans were unable to watch their team on CSN Philadelphia when their MLB favorites come from 7 games behind the New York Mets with 17 games left in the season to earn the team’s first playoff berth since 1993.
