Cisco Works Up Online Video Buzz In Deal With Red Bee

Cisco Systems is collaborating with U.K.-based media-management provider Red Bee Media to deliver "RedPlayer," an online video player solution for broadcasters and media companies.

The RedPlayer service offering combines Red Bee Media's creative, digital content and media management services with key elements of the Cisco Videoscape platform for blending TV with Web content, personal media and social-networking announced earlier this year.

RedPlayer will include three Cisco Videoscape Media Suite modules: Content Management System; Entitlement, which provides tools for configuring and enforcing content access rules; and Publisher, to produce comprehensive, multilevel content feeds and playlists. Also in the offering are Videoscape Soft Client video streaming and download players for the PC and Mac.

"Online video has become a critical play for our broadcast and media customers, and we are excited to partner with Red Bee Media to bring our multi-platform online video player service portfolio to market," Enrique Rodriguez, senior vice president and general manager of Cisco's Service Provider Video Technology Group, said in a statement. "Through Cisco Videoscape, we are uniquely positioned to offer content providers the necessary components for an end-to-end managed service that includes all forms of content management, syndication and publication."

Red Bee Media, which has its headquarters in London, provides managed services for the media sector ranging from media management and multiplatform content preparation to creative services such as user interface designs, digital rights management (DRM) and content-protection services.
