Charter Hires Hargis, Ex of Cablevision, As Marketing EVP

Charter Communications CEO Tom Rutledge has hired former his Cablevision colleague Jonathan Hargis as executive vice president and chief marketing officer, a similar title to what Hargis held at Cablevision before he left last month.

At Charter, in his new position, Hargis will oversee Charter's sales and marketing activities.

Hargis had been at Cablevision since 2000 before he left, along with several other top executives at Cablevision in the past several months. He officially joins St. Louis-based Charter on Monday (April 9).

Of the several high-profile departures from CEO James Dolan's Cablevision in recent weeks and months, Hargis is the first to land at Charter under Rutledge, who resigned in surprising fashion as Cablevision's chief operating officer last December.

"I've worked with Jon for many years and am pleased to have him join the Charter team," Rutledge, president and CEO at the No. 4 U.S. cable operator said in a release. "His 11 years of industry experience in highly competitive markets will bring valuable insight to Charter's operations."

Earlier in his career, Hargis held leadership roles at AT&T. He has long served on the board of the Cable & Telecommunications Association for Marketing (CTAM) and has chaired the CTAM board.
