Charter Debuts HITN in Atlanta

HITN-TV, the Spanish-language educational and cultural network, has been launched in  Atlanta by Charter Communications, officials said Monday.

Charter’s Hispanic subscribers in Covington, Athens, Gainesville, Gwinnett, Smyrna, Cedartown, Lagrange, Carrollton, Columbus, Newnan, Stockbridge, and Thomaston will now have the opportunity to tune in to HITN’s mix of original educational programming, cultural/news productions, and entertainment series.

Deal terms for the digital tier placement were not disclosed.

“Charter is pleased to offer HITN-TV on our digital tier,” local Charter spokesman Skip James said. “Charter’s mission is to provide the best value in our video service, and is further committed to enhancing diverse information and entertainment choices in the communities we serve. By offering special interest programming, like HITN-TV, we are providing the additional choice and variety our customers deserve.”

“The Latino population in Atlanta has experienced substantial growth in the last decade,” Jose Luis Rodriguez, HITN-TV founder and president, added in a statement. “We are pleased to launch on Charter and further expand HITN’s presence in the Hispanic market and continue in our mission to be a valuable and accessible resource to the Hispanic community.”

Some of HITN-TV’s programming highlights include: the award-winning Dialogo de Costa a Costa, a daily live talk show that provides a forum for Latinos in the 50 states to share their opinions and ask questions on key issues affecting their families and communities; GED en Español, a series of classes to teach Spanish dominant viewers how to obtain their high school diploma; and EASY English, a series of classes to teach Spanish-language speakers basic and intermediate English language skills.
