Cablevision Systems announced that its Optimum App -- which among other features provides video and broadband subscribers access to their full TV and video-on-demand lineup over home Wi-Fi -- is now available for select Android devices from Samsung Electronics and Google’s Motorola Mobility.
According to Cablevision, the Optimum App, also available for Apple iOS devices, Amazon’s Kindle Fire tablets, and PCs and Mac computers, has been downloaded more than 1 million times.
The Optimum App lets customers watch TV in the home over Wi-Fi, search the channel guide, manage DVR settings, receive content recommendations and use devices as remote controls for conventional TVs.
Cablevision allows users to watch live TV and VOD only on two iPhone, iPad, Android or Kindle Fire devices at the same time. The Optimum App does not let users watch recordings made on a set-top DVR or through the MSO’s DVR Plus service.
“Our customers love the Optimum App, because it offers tremendous control over when, where and how to find and enjoy television programming, with an intuitive interface and gorgeous picture. We are pleased to announce the availability of this very popular app on select Android devices, while we continue to work to add new devices in the future,” said Bradley Feldman, Cablevision’s vice president of video product management. “The Optimum App is one of many ways we are extending the value of Optimum TV by making it easier than ever for our customers to discover and enjoy their favorite shows.”
The Optimum App for select Android devices is available at the Google Play store at https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.optimum.unity.mobile.
To use the app’s features, Optimum TV customers must have a digital cable set-top box or device with a CableCard as well as an authorized Cablevision-supplied modem, wireless router and supported Android device.
