Cablevision Adds Versus/Golf Channel HD

Cablevision Systems subscribers who are golf fans can now watch The Golf Channel as part of their basic-cable package, as well as HD content from the network, as part of a distribution deal announced Wednesday between the two parties .

The deal moves Golf from Cablevision’s $4.95-per-month sports-tier package to its iO digital lineup across the company’s New York-area subscriber base of more than 3 million, the MSO said.

It also gives Cablevision subscribers access to the composite Versus/Golf Channel HD channel, according to Cablevision. The HD channel will feature coverage of the National Hockey League Stanley Cup Finals and other sports content from Versus, as well as PGA Tour coverage from Golf.

“Cablevision is pleased to add these popular national sports networks to our expanding high definition programming lineup,” Cablevision vice president of video-product management Theresa Chillianis said in a prepared statement. “HD is a key differentiator of our iO digital-cable service, and our robust HD lineup has helped Cablevision to achieve the highest digital penetration in the country, with 80% of our cable customers embracing digital television.”
