CableLabs has hired Wayne Surdam, formerly vice president of media and influencer relations at Hewlett-Packard, as vice president of communications.
At HP, Surdam worked with Phil McKinney, who took over as CableLabs president and CEO in June 2012. McKinney most recently was chief technology officer of HP’s personal systems group.
Surdam also has worked for Alcatel and Newbridge Networks. He will be based the Silicon Valley area.
CableLabs is expanding its presence in the Silicon Valley high-tech corridor, with plans to open a new testing and certification facility in the area by mid-2013 as an extension of its Louisville, Colo., headquarters.
