Burns, Tribeca Film Tap Social Media To Tout Movies On Demand 's Presentation Of 'Newlyweds'
Tribeca Film and top cable operators are teaming on social media push behind the upcoming Movies On Demand release of Ed Burns's film, Newlyweds.
The coalition, including In Demand, Comcast, Charter, Cox and Time Warner Cable, will work in conjunction with Tribeca Film to stream a live question-and-answer session with film critic Caryn James and Burns on Jan. 3, at 8 p.m. (ET) through the participating cable operators' Facebook pages and at www.livestream.com/tribecafilm. Newlyweds opens on Movies On Demand on Dec. 26.
Filmaker, actor Burns will also take questions directly from the MSOs' Facebook friends community in real time. The participating cable operators reach a combined 34 million U.S. VOD-enabled households and count millions of social-media followers.
"It is gratifying that our partners, who have been integral to the growth of Tribeca Film since its launch in 2010, have helped us realize this vision for supporting a film through a unified and powerful social media campaign," said Todd Green, general manager of Tribeca Film, in announcing the initiative. "As the consumer media experience continues to evolve, it is important to devise new strategies for reaching consumers while supporting filmmakers. The interactive element of the Q&A will allow direct interaction between Ed and his core fan base. We are grateful to all of our partners and to Edward Burns for their shared commitment to the groundbreaking approach to releasing Newlyweds."
The comedic relationship drama will be available nationwide the day after Christmas on Movies On Demand via cable, telco and satellite VOD providers, iTunes, Amazon Watch Instantly and Vudu. A select theatrical release is also scheduled for next month.
The film was acquired by Tribeca Film following its world premiere as the "Closing Night" selection at the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival.
