BroadSoft, a provider of voice-over-Internet-Protocol applications for cable and telecommunications providers, announced Monday it has acquired privately held Sylantro Systems, a competing VoIP systems vendor. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
"Sylantro has been a strong competitor of BroadSoft for 10 years. This acquisition further advances our market and innovative leadership position," BroadSoft president and CEO Michael Tessler said, in a statement.
Other vendors in the segment include MetaSwitch, Sonus Networks, Cedar Point Communications and Nortel Networks.
BroadSoft customers include Cox Communications, Verizon Communications, Sprint, Telstra, SingTel and Korea Telecom, while Sylantro’s include AT&T, Qwest Communications International, China Netcom and StarHub.
BroadSoft spokeswoman Kristin Martell said the majority of Sylantro’s employees will join the company. BroadSoft, based in Gaithersburg, Md., intends to support Sylantro's Synergy platform through its direct sales force and partners.
Investors in Sylantro included Accel Partners, Mayfield Fund, Rembrandt Venture Partners, Scale Venture Partners, Summerhill Venture Partners and Vanguard Ventures. Campbell, Calif.-based Sylantro was founded in 1998.
BroadSoft also was founded in 1998 and has received funding from Bessemer Venture Partners, Charles River Ventures, and Columbia Capital.
