BellSouth Hawks $99 Triple Play

BellSouth began marketing a $99 monthly triple-play package of telephone service, high-speed-Internet access and a choice of either Cingular Wireless mobile-phone service or DirecTV programming in south Florida.

The offer -- available in Miami, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach -- is unique in that it offers consumers the option of mobile-phone service or pay TV from BellSouth partner DirecTV as the third product in the bundle.

Most of BellSouth’s cable rivals don’t offer mobile-phone service. Its cable competitors in Florida -- namely Comcast in the Miami area -- currently market triple-play packages of pay TV, high-speed-Internet and digital-telephone service.

BellSouth features call-center employees in new TV ads for the triple-play offer. One spot features a camera traveling down a row of customer-service cubicles “to listen in on call-center employees taking calls. Viewers will catch snippets of dialogue from each of the conversations, each related to the features and benefits of the new $99 bundle,” BellSouth said Thursday.
