Baynews9.com Wins Murrow Award For Best Web Site

Baynews9.com has won a regional Edward R. Murrow Award for the best Web site, serving a large television market.

The honor, judged on design, quality, innovation and story-telling techniques, is bestowed on sites that are user-friendly and play a vital role in informing the public of important daily issues.

News Web sites throughout Florida, Georgia, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands competed for the regional Edward R. Murrow Award. Now baynews9.com is entered into a national competition held in June.

Launched in September 1999, Baynews.com has become a popular destination for local news and weather information, serving the Tampa Bay area.

"This is an incredible honor", said Elliott Wiser, Bright House Networks vice president of news and local programming. "Online initiatives continue to grow in importance. At Bay News 9 and our sister station News 13 in Central Florida we continually strive to make sure our sites are easy to navigate and are continually updated with new and relevant content."

Kate Fox, Bay News 9 director of enhanced programming added, "We have committed even more resources to our online offerings since 2008, including a more robust sports section and adding the area's only full-time web anchor. We want to continue to be the web site for local news, weather, and sports in Tampa Bay. It is an honor for the entire staff to receive another prestigious Murrow award."
