Avail-TVN Picks VidScale CDN Software For 'TV Everywhere' Service

Avail-TVN has deployed VidScale's content delivery network (CDN) and bandwidth-optimization software as part of its AnyView multiscreen video service.

Avail-TVN's AnyView is a white-label multiscreen MPEG-4 video solution for service providers, designed to extend traditional linear TV and video-on-demand to IP-connected devices including PCs and Macs, Apple iOS and Android devices, and Roku set-tops.

The company launched the solution this summer, with Cable & Wireless Communications' Caribbean-based Lime telecommunications subsidiary among its first customers to deploy AnyView. In the U.S., Avail-TVN expects to commercially launch AnyView in the first quarter of 2012 and has been conducting trials with at least four American cable operators.

"VidScale's MediaWarp software and multitier architecture enabled us to rapidly deploy carrier-class CDN functionality for value-added services our customers can pass on to the end user," Avail-TVN chief technology officer Michael Kazmier said in a statement.

VidScale's Linux-based MediaWarp software provides transparent caching to optimize the delivery of managed and unmanaged over-the-top content. The privately held startup, founded in 2010, is based in Cambridge, Mass.

"VidScale is honored to be working with Avail-TVN to support its AnyView product," VidScale CEO Robert Rizika said in a statement. "Our capability to rapidly deploy key services, coupled with our expertise in carrier-class CDN software and bandwidth optimization supports Avail's goals of providing the highest QoS in the most cost-effective manner."
