ABC News Now Heads to India

Disney’s Buena Vista International Television-Asia Pacific reached an agreement with Indian satellite TV provider Dish TV to launch ABC News Now in India.

The deal -- subject to downlinking approval by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in India -- is the first outside of the United States for the 24-hour news channel.

“This is a major step forward for ABC News Now,” said David Westin, president of ABC News. “As ABC News strives to reach news audiences anytime and anywhere around the globe, we are delighted that one of the largest English-speaking countries in the world should be our first step.”

ABC News Now provides international news coverage; interviews from 20/20, Primetime and World News with Charles Gibson; and original programming on health, money and Hollywood.

To date, Dish TV reports about 1.2 million subscribers.
