2012 Olympics: Telemundo Also Tallying Significant Gains from London
NBCUniversal's Nielsen gains with the London Olympics have not been limited to its English-language services.
Telemundo Media's coverage of the first three days of the 2012 Summer Games topped the its audience delivery from the corresponding span of the 2008 Beijing Olympics by 69% and 58% among persons 18 to 49, according to Nielsen data. Led by award-winning sportscaster Andres Cantor, the Spanish-language broadcast network counted cumulative viewership of 9.4 million viewers for the first three days, 12% more than the first three days in the 2008 Games from China.
Looking at performances in key markets, Telemundo's Houston and San Francisco stations reported overall growth of 310% and 547% in the aforementioned demo versus the same period from Beijing, according to NBCU officials. All told, the New York, Dallas, Chicago, San Francisco and Los Angeles stations scored 149% growth to 188,964 viewers from 76,015 and a 130% increase to 106,316 persons 18 to 49 from 46,265).
Telemundo Media's digital properties also netted strong results, registering 269,000 visitors from July 25 to July 30, translating into 383,000 total visits with 627,000 streams, an 822% jump over Beijing, and 3.6 million page views. The top five most-visited sport event sections on the site to-date have been beach volleyball, soccer, diving, gymnastics and volleyball.
