Mediacom Shows Q3 Sub Improvement

Keeping up with the trend toward improved video subscriber results across the sector, Mediacom Communications lost about 17,000 basic video customers in the third quarter, a 10.5% improvement over the 19,000 customer losses it posted in the same period last year.

Mediacom ended the period with about 862,000 total video customers in the third quarter. In addition, the eighth largest cable operator in the country added 16,000 high-speed data customers and 9,000 telephone customers in the period.

Revenue rose 4% to $431.6 million and operating income before interest, depreciation and amortization (OIBDA) rose 3.6% to $165.2 million.

The Mediacom results reflect a trend in the third quarter toward improved subscriber metrics.  Already Comcast improved its customer losses to 48,000 in the third quarter (nearly half the 81,000 lost last year) and Time Warner Cable lost just 7,000 residential basic video subscribers, compared to a loss of 184,000 video customers in the prior year.  Charter Communications added 12,000 basic video customers in the third quarter, compared to a loss of 9,000 in the same period in 2014.
