Mediacom Racks Up Content Deals

Mediacom Communications' busy run of content dealmaking have positioned the cable company to expand its "TV Everywhere" offerings, giving customers greater access to live and on demand broadcast and cable content and expanded TV Everywhere options across a variety of devices. It's also enabled a new expansion of Spanish-langage offerings in its local markets.

In late December, it signed new global deals with NBCUniversal (read more here) and Turner Broadcasting Systems and expanded agreements with Big Ten Network’s BTN2Go and Fox Broadcasting’s FOX.com, adding TV Everywhere content rights.

New deals with companies including Azteca International, Multimedios, Olympusat, and others have enabled the cable operator to offer significantly more Spanish language programming than before.  For example, the company created a new 27-channel Spanish language tier called Mediacom Canales Latinos.

Retransmission renewals also were struck with Capital, Citadel, Coronet, Local TV, Media General, Quincy and Sinclair Broadcast Group for broadcast stations in Mediacom cable systems, avoiding service disruptions.

More recently, the Middletown, N.Y.-based cable company, which operates mostly in the Midwest and Southeast, signed a new carriage renewal with Reelzchannel, for five years of linear and video-on-demand content.
