Young Sheldon signs off after seven seasons on CBS, when the series finale airs Thursday, May 18. Jim Parsons and Mayim Bialik reprise their roles as Sheldon Cooper and Amy Farrah Fowler in the finale, titled “Memoir.” 

Chuck Lorre, Steven Molaro and Steve Holland wrote the episode and Alex Reid directed it. 

Lorre and Molaro created Young Sheldon, a spinoff of The Big Bang Theory. The show premiered in 2017 and is about young Sheldon Cooper growing up in East Texas. “Being a once-in-a-generation mind capable of advanced mathematics and science isn’t always helpful in a land where church and football are king,” according to CBS. 

Iain Armitage plays Sheldon. Zoe Perry and Lance Barber portray his parents and Annie Potts is his Meemaw. Montana Jordan is Georgie and Raegan Revord is Missy. 

Armitage spoke about the show ending at the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour earlier this year. “I am so sad that this is coming to an end but, honestly, I could have asked for nothing better,” he said. “And I think as hard or sad as it is, it's so important to remember that the only reason it is because this is such a wonderful group of people that we get to work with and such a cool and crazy and weird thing we get to do.”

The Big Bang Theory ended in 2019. 

The Young Sheldon spinoff, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, airs on Thursdays on CBS this fall. 

Jim Parsons and Mayim Bialik will appear in the Young Sheldon series finale, reprising their roles from The Big Bang Theory. The finale happens on CBS May 16. 

Parsons played Sheldon Cooper and Bialik played Amy Farrah Fowler on Big Bang Theory, which concluded in 2019. Spinoff Young Sheldon started in 2017. 

Another spinoff, about Sheldon’s brother Georgie, his girlfriend Mandy and their baby, is in the works. 

Parsons is an executive producer on Young Sheldon, and provides voiceovers. Bialik has taken part in voiceovers in two episodes.  

Created by Chuck Lorre and Steven Molaro, Young Sheldon centers on Sheldon Cooper, a child of extraordinary intelligence, “which isn’t always helpful in a land where church and football are king,” according to CBS. “And while the vulnerable, gifted and somewhat naïve Sheldon deals with the world, his very normal family must find a way to deal with him.”

Iain Armitage plays Sheldon. Zoe Perry, Lance Barber, Annie Potts, Montana Jordan, Raegan Revord and Emily Osment are also in the cast. 

Parsons, Lorre, Molaro, Steve Holland, Nick Bakay and Todd Spiewak executive produce Young Sheldon. The show is produced by Chuck Lorre Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television.

Season seven began February 15. 

CBS has ordered a spinoff of Young Sheldon, itself a spinoff of The Big Bang Theory. The as-yet-untitled show features Sheldon’s big brother Georgie and girlfriend Mandy raising their young family in Texas while sorting out the challenges of parenting and marriage. 

Montana Jordan and Emily Osment star. The multi-cam comedy looks to be on for the 2024-2045 season. 

Chuck Lorre, Steven Molaro and Steve Holland are executive producers. 

“It has been a privilege to spend the last seven years with Sheldon and the Cooper family and now this wonderful journey will continue with Georgie and Mandy,” Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment, said. “Chuck and both Steves have done a masterful job developing these characters and entertaining generations of fans with relatable, heartwarming stories brought to life by Montana and Emily. We eagerly look forward to the next chapter in this beloved universe.”

The Big Bang Theory ran for 12 seasons on CBS and Young Sheldon, with Iain Armitage playing Sheldon Cooper in his boyhood, debuted in 2017. The seventh and final season began last month. 

“From The Big Bang Theory to Young Sheldon, the world of the Cooper family has been incredibly special to us,” said Lorre, Molaro and Holland. “We’re very excited to continue their stories through the eyes of Georgie and Mandy.”

The spinoff comes from Chuck Lorre Productions, Inc. in association with Warner Bros. Television.

The season seven premiere of comedy Young Sheldon airs on CBS Thursday, February 15. It is the final season for The Big Bang Theory spinoff, and the series finale comes May 16. 

A Young Sheldon panel happened on the Warner Bros. lot in Burbank during the TCA Winter Press Tour. Executive producer Steve Holland addressed why the show is ending. “There's certain things that we know happened in Sheldon's life when he’s 14, as the character is this season, and we started talking about the future of the show and what it would look like, and it just felt like this was the right time for that story to come to an end,” he said. “With those big events happening and knowing where Sheldon goes at 14 — he goes off to Cal Tech — it just felt like the right time to end the show, and to end it strong and while it was still on top.”

Exec producer Chuck Lorre said the show never would’ve come to be if they had not found Iain Armitage to play the title character. Eight years ago, he said Iain’s mother sent the producers a video of the boy doing a scene that Holland and Lorre wrote and never intended to shoot. “We just wrote the most difficult scene imaginable for an 8-year-old, and this guy killed it. He killed it,” he said. “And if that had not happened, we wouldn’t have gone forward.”

Armitage said the show’s finale is bittersweet for him. “I am so sad that this is coming to an end but, honestly, I could have asked for nothing better,” he said. “And I think as hard or sad as it is, it's so important to remember that the only reason it is because this is such a wonderful group of people that we get to work with and such a cool and crazy and weird thing we get to do.”

February 15 also features the season three premiere of Ghosts, the season two premiere of So Help Me Todd and a rerun of new drama Tracker, which aired after the Super Bowl, on CBS. Justin Hartley stars in Tracker.

While we’ve certainly dinged Warner Bros. Discovery’s retreat to “arms-dealer” stature and the growth implications that has had on Max, the strategy just might have its first signature win with Young Sheldon. 

Debuting its first five seasons domestically on Netflix Nov. 24, while simultaneously streaming seasons 1-6 on Max, and readying the strike-delayed seventh and final season for CBS starting on Feb. 15, the Chuck Lorre comedy spinoff seems to have been the most-watched scripted show in subscription streaming during the holidays. 

According to Nielsen, Young Sheldon was the most streamed show in the U.S. for the week of November 27-December 3, racking up 1.846 billion minutes of engagement.  

That’s the most recent Nielsen data we have, given the research company’s five-week delay. But Young Sheldon did rank in the top 10 for English-language shows throughout December on Netflix's weekly Global Top 10 tracker. 

Not only was the Warner Bros. Television-produced series consistently a top 10 show in the U.S. on Netflix throughout 2023’s final month, it has also been a top performer for several years in international Netflix markets ranging from the U.K. to Australia to Bangladesh. 

Not surprisingly, some are already comparing Young Sheldon's early multiplatform U.S. streaming run to NBCUniversal’s Suits, which drew a consistently huge audience last summer while running simultaneously on Netflix and Peacock.  

Notably, Young Sheldon accumulated a very binge-able 131 episodes through six seasons vs. 133 for Suits.

But as Nielsen noted, Young Sheldon is a half-hour comedy vs. the one-hour legal dramedy Suits, making the former that much quicker to burn through for new streaming enthusiasts.

Conversely, another Nielsen note surprised us a little — only 20% of the streaming audience for Young Sheldon from November 27-December 3 was older than 50, vs. more than 50% for Suits during its summer streaming run. Even by the geriatric standards of broadcast TV, CBS (Young Sheldon's home network) skews old, with an industry high median age of 63.2 years (vs. 52.4 for Fox). 

That could be telling us that an entirely new audience is discovering Young Sheldon, versus one that enjoyed it on CBS and is re-bingeing it via streaming. 

CBS comedy Young Sheldon will end when its upcoming season ends in May. Season seven begins Thursday, February 15, and wraps Thursday, May 16. 

The show is a spinoff of The Big Bang Theory.

Young Sheldon has been picked up by TBS from Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution. The off-CBS sitcom, based on the life of young Sheldon Cooper (Iain Armitage) from The Big Bang Theory, will premiere on TBS on Monday, Sept. 27 at 5 p.m. ET/PT. Young Sheldon joins such sitcoms as Friends, Big Bang, Seinfeld and Family Guy on TBS' line-up.

Young Sheldon, about the brilliant and socially awkward Cooper’s childhood in football-loving East Texas, premiered on CBS in 2017 as the most-watched comedy debut in broadcast primetime in 15 years. It recently concluded its fourth season and has been renewed by CBS for three more seasons. 

Besides Armitage, Young Sheldon stars Zoe Perry, Lance Barber, Montana Jordan, Raegan Revord with Annie Potts and Jim Parsons as the voice of grown-up Sheldon. 

Young Sheldon was created by Chuck Lorre and Steven Molaro, who both serve as executive producers along with Steve Holland, Parsons and Todd Spiewak. 

Young Sheldon, starring Iain Armitage as The Big Bang Theory’s young Sheldon Cooper, has been sold to TV stations in more than 90% of the U.S., David Decker, executive vice president, Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution, said on Monday.

Launching this fall, the off-network sitcom will air on stations owned by Nexstar, Sinclair, CBS, Hearst, Gray, Tegna, Scripps, Cox, Meredith, Graham, Weigel, Allen Media, Sunbeam, News-Press, Londen Media, Griffin, Lockwood, Morris and more. Both Young Sheldon and its elder sitcom sibling, The Big Bang Theory, also have been sold to HBO Max to air in premium streaming.

Young Sheldon premiered on CBS in 2017 and was the most watched comedy debut in 15 years. Currently in its fourth season, and recently picked up by CBS for an additional three, the series is television’s number-one comedy, delivering nearly 10 million total viewers a week, and is also TV’s top-rated comedy among adults 25-54. Young Sheldon joins fellow Chuck Lorre series Two and a Half Men, Mom and Mike & Molly in syndication along with The Big Bang Theory, which has been sold for its third cycle beginning fall of 2023.

CBS has renewed Young Sheldon for three more seasons, starting with 2021-2022. The Chuck Lorre comedy, a spinoff of The Big Bang Theory, premiered in the fall of 2017. It is in season four.

Comedy Young Sheldon starts season four on CBS Nov. 5, and Mom begins season eight. Also starting on that date is new Chuck Lorre comedy B Positive.

Thomas Middleditch and Annaleigh Ashford star in B Positive, inspired by creator Marco Pennette’s experience as a transplant recipient. Pennette and Lorre executive produce.

CBS has revealed premiere dates for 10 scripted shows, including five dramas and five comedies. Young Sheldon has its season four premiere and Mom starts season eight Nov. 5. Also on that date is new Chuck Lorre comedy B Positive. Thomas Middleditch and Annaleigh Ashford star in the show, inspired by creator Marco Pennette’s experience as a transplant recipient. 

Show production has been staggered for all networks due to COVID issues. 

NCIS: Los Angeles and NCIS: New Orleans are back Nov. 8, Los Angeles beginning season 12 and New Orleans season seven. Drama SWAT premieres season four Nov. 11. 

Comedies The Neighborhood starts season three and Bob Hearts Abishola begins season two Nov. 16, as does legal drama All Rise, also unfurling season two.  

Procedural drama NCIS is back Nov. 17 with season 18. CBS will air fan-favorite episodes from the series’ 17 previous seasons Sunday nights, starting Nov. 8.

ViacomCBS’s Nickelodeon said it has acquired the off-network rights to Young Sheldon and will add the top-rated sitcom to its Nick at Nite lineup starting in November.

Young Sheldon airs on ViacomCBS’s CBS broadcast network. It is produced and distributed by AT&T’s Warner Bros. and its streaming rights were sold to HBO Max--AT&T’s streaming service--in a deal reportedly worth $600 million.

Terms of the new cable deal were not disclosed.

Young Sheldon is a prequel to Big Bang Theory telling the story of Sheldon Cooper growing up as an awkward genius in West Texas. HBO Max acquired the streaming rights to Big Bang Theory and reruns of the sitcom appear on AT&T’s TBS cable channel.

Nick at Nite will initially run the first three seasons--65 episodes--of Young Sheldon. It will also be able to run later seasons beginning fall 2021. Young Sheldon joins other family sitcoms, including Friends, George Lopez and Mom, in Nick at Nite's lineup.

HBO Max has acquired the exclusive rights to the comedy Young Sheldon, the streaming service said Friday.

The deal with Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution calls for HBO Max -- which launched on Tuesday -- to stream the Big Bang Theory spinoff, which is currently the most watched comedy on network television with total viewers, teens and key 25-54 demos, said the streaming service. HBO Max also has rights to the 279-episode Big Bang Theory library.

“We now feel like our Big Bang offering is complete,” said Kevin Reilly, chief content officer, HBO Max, president TNT, TBS, and TruTV in a statement. “We are so proud to be the home of this beloved franchise and the place where new and existing fans can learn about young Sheldon Cooper’s roots.”

HBO Max has acquired streaming rights to comedy Young Sheldon in a deal with Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution. HBO Max, which launched May 27, is the streaming home of The Big Bang Theory. Young Sheldon is a spinoff of that series.

Young Sheldon, about a brainy kid growing up in Texas, airs on CBS. The series has averaged more than 11.4 million viewers per week during the 2019–20 season, according to Most Current ratings from Nielsen.
