                                <p>The Writers Guild of America, East has announced that comedian and writer, Dick Cavett will receive the Evelyn F. Burkey Award at the 2022 Writers Guild Awards on Sunday, March 20 and will be hosted by Ashley Nicole Black.</p><p>Seth Meyers will present the award to Cavett during the joint virtual ceremony. </p><p>Cavett, a guild member since 1961, got his start writing for Jack Parr and <em>The Tonight Show</em>. Cavett continued to write for Johnny Carson when he became host and eventually would go on to write for <em>The Jerry Lewis Show</em>. </p><p>In 1968, Cavett was hired by ABC to host <em>This Morning</em> which was renamed to <em>The Dick Cavett Show</em> where it ran on prime time before being moved to late night, opposite <em>The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson</em>.</p><p>Dick Cavett had many guests featured on <em>The Dick Cavett Show</em> including Jefferson Airplane, Joni Mitchell, David Crosby, Stephen Stills and Judy Collins where she discussed being a defense witness during the Chicago Seven trial. He also used his show to speak out against the Vietnam War and brought future Senator John Kerry on as a guest.</p><p>“Thank you to the Writers Guild of America, East for honoring me with the Evelyn F. Burkey Award,” wrote Cavett. “I am very grateful to receive this distinguished award from my union and want to thank all the people, throughout my career, who have helped me create television that we aimed to make socially relevant, conversationally enlightening, and eye-opening fun.” ■</p>

                                <p>The Writers Guild of America East (WGAE) and West (WGAW) have announced their 2021 Writers Guild Awards nominees and <a href="https://www.nexttv.com/news/analysis-americans-averaged-600-hours-of-netflix-in-2020">Netflix</a> got the most nods, followed by HBO and CBS.</p><p>Broadcast net nominations were primarily for news, with only Fox scoring multiple primetime nods for writing on its animation.</p><p>The awards, for outstanding writing in TV, new media, news and radio/audio, will be handed out March 21 at a virtual ceremony.</p><p><a href="https://www.nexttv.com/news/netflix-rules-golden-globe-nominations">Also Read: Netflix Rules Golden Globes Nominations</a></p><p><a href="https://www.nexttv.com/tag/netflix">Netflix</a>&apos;s 10 nods included <em>The Crown</em> (written by Peter Morgan and Jonathan Wilson), <em>Ozark</em> (Laura Deeley, Bill Dubuque, Paul Kolsby, Miki Johnson, Chris Mundy, John Shiban, Ning Zhou, Martin Zimmerman), and <em>The Queen&apos;s Gambit</em> (Scott Frank and Allan Scott).</p><p><a href="https://www.nexttv.com/tag/hbo">HBO</a>&apos;s nine nominations were for shows including <em>Raised By Wolves</em> (written by Aaron Guzikowski), <em>High Maintenance</em> (Isaac Oliver), and <em>Last Week Tonight with John Oliver</em> (Johnathan Appel, Ali Barthwell, Tim Carvell, Liz Hynes, Greg Iwinski, Mark Kramer, Daniel O&apos;Brien, John Oliver, Owen Parsons, Charlie Redd, Joanna Rothkopf, Chrissy Shackelford, Ben Silva, and Seena Vali).</p><p>Streaming service <a href="https://www.nexttv.com/news/atandt-ceo-john-stankey-targets-q2-for-avod-version-of-hbo-max">HBO Max</a> got four nods of its own, three for children&apos;s shows <em>Mo Willems and the Storytime All Stars Present: Don&apos;t Let the Pigeon Do Storytime</em> (Mo Willems), <em>The Not Too Late Show with Elmo</em> (Geri Cole, Scott Gray, Benjamin Lehmann, Wendy Marston, Andrew Moriarty, Ken Scarborough, and Moujan Zolfaghari), and <em>The Power of We: A Sesame Street Special</em> (Geri Cole). The other was for new series <em>The Flight Attendant</em> (Kara Lee Corthron, Michael Foley, Ryan Jennifer Jones, Ticona S. Joy, Meredith Lavender, Jess Meyer, Daniele Nathanson, Marcie Ulin, Ian Weinreich, and Steve Yockey).</p><p><a href="https://www.nexttv.com/news/netflix-hbo-lead-naacp-image-awards-nominations">Also Read: Netflix, HBO Lead NAACP Image Awards Nominations</a></p><p>CBS was the top broadcast nominee with six, plus one for OTT service CBS All Access and one for WCBS-TV New York, which is co-owned with the network.</p><p>ABC got five nomination, but none for primetime. Its nods were four for news and one for daytime drama.</p><p>Fox also had five, all in the animation category. Four were for <em>The Simpsons</em> (Dan Vebber, Cesar Mazariegos, Jessica Conrad, and Danielle Weisberg) and one for <em>Bob&apos;s Burgers</em> (Katie Crown). Other shows nominated in the category include CBS’s <em>The Good Wife</em>, Netflix’s <em>House Of Cards</em> and AMC’s <em>Mad Men</em>.</p><p>OTT services Netflix and Amazon earned multiple nominations, as did cable networks FX, Lifetime, Comedy Central and Nickelodeon.</p><p>The winners will be announced during the 2015 Writers Guild Awards ceremony Feb. 14 in Los Angeles and New York.</p><p>A full list of nominees can be found <a href="http://www.wga.org/content/default.aspx?id=5678">here.</a></p>
