                                <p>Longtime <a href="https://www.nexttv.com/tag/crown-media">Crown Media</a> programming and production executive Michelle Vicary will leave her position at the beginning of June, the network said Monday.</p><p>Vicary has served as executive VP of programming for Crown Media Networks since 2011, overseeing production and original programming for all of Crown Media’s platforms, including <a href="https://www.nexttv.com/tag/hallmark-channel">Hallmark Channel</a>, according to the company. She was instrumental in developing such Hallmark scripted series as <em>When Calls the Heart</em>, <em>Good Witch</em> and <em>Chesapeake Shores.</em></p><p>Crown Media has named Randy Pope, senior VP of programming and development, and Darren Melameth, senior VP, programming and content strategy, as interim co-leads while searching for a replacement, said Crown Media Family Networks CEO Wonya Lucas.</p><p>“We thank Michelle for her contributions to the growth and success of our networks and for helping to bring the quintessential Hallmark brand to life,” Lucas said in a statement. “We appreciate the passion and effort she has  brought to our team and to the company.”</p><p>Crown Media earlier this month named veteran programming executive <a href="https://www.nexttv.com/news/crown-media-names-toni-judkins-to-svp-programming-position">Toni Judkins as its senior VP, programming and development for Hallmark Channel</a> and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.</p><p><a href="https://www.nexttv.com/features/telling-stories-sans-stereotype">Also Read: Telling Stories Sans Stereotype</a></p>

                                <figure class="van-image-figure pull-" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' ><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:56.25%;"><img id="bGhJ3AUZREEetaSngRrgYW" name="" alt="" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/bGhJ3AUZREEetaSngRrgYW.jpg" mos="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/bGhJ3AUZREEetaSngRrgYW.jpg" align="" fullscreen="" width="" height="" attribution="" endorsement="" class="pull-"></p></div></div></figure><p>Hallmark Channel cancelled its Wednesday upfront event in New York City due to the nor’easter snowstorm, but that didn’t stop the network from making several programming announcements, including the renewals of its scripted series <em>When Calls the Heart</em> and reality series <em>Meet The Peetes.</em></p><p>Instead of a formal upfront event, the network made the announcements during a Facebook live event from New York's wintery Central Park featuring Hallmark Channel president and CEO Bill Abbott and Hallmark Channel executive vice president of ad sales Ed Georger, as well as actresses Candace Cameron Bure and Danica McKellar.</p><p>Hallmark ordered a sixth season of its scripted drama series <em>When Calls the Heart</em>, based on the book of the same name by Janette Oke and starring Erin Krakow, Lori Loughlin and Daniel Lissing.</p><p>“Most series experience a ratings decline with age, but <em>When Calls the Heart</em> is bucking that trend thanks to our devoted fans who elevate the show to new levels each year,” said Michelle Vicary, Executive Vice President, Programming and Network Publicity, Crown Media Family Networks in a statement. “The compelling storytelling combined with our captivating cast keeps our viewers engaged and enthusiastic about the saga of Hope Valley, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to continue the journey in season six.”</p><p>The network’s freshman reality series <em>Meet The Peetes</em> – which follows the family of former NFL quarterback Rodney Peete and actress Holly Robinson Peete – will return for a second season in 2019, said network officials.<br/><br/><a href="https://www.nexttv.com/blog/meet-peetes-bringing-reality-diversity-hallmark-channel-418275" data-original-url="https://www.multichannel.com/blog/meet-peetes-bringing-reality-diversity-hallmark-channel-418275">RELATED: 'Meet The Peetes' Bringing Reality, Diversity to Hallmark Channel </a></p><p>“We look forward to continue sharing the Peetes’ journey as they navigate through life united as a family,” Vicary said.</p><p>Hallmark also announced that next February it will add a new Super Bowl Sunday special, <em>Cat Bowl</em>, to complement its annual <em>Kitten Bowl</em> telecast. <em>Cat Bowl</em>, which will feature adult cats plating a feline Hall of Fame game, will debut Feb. 2, prior to the 6th annual <em>Kitten Bowl</em> telecast.</p><p>The network said it will also bring back it <em>American Rescue Dog Show</em> event with a second installment airing in February 2019.</p><p>On the Hallmark Movies & Mysteries front, the network will premiere three new original movies in 2018, including <em>Crossword Mysteries, Picture Perfect and The Chronicle Mysteries.</em></p>

                                <p>Last night’s telecast of the 89th annual Academy Awards ceremony generated huge social media traffic, according to Nielsen. </p><p>ABC's telecast of <em>The Oscars</em> drew a whopping 22 million Facebook and Twitter interactions across 8.3 million unique social media accounts, topping all entertainment shows for Sunday, according to Nielsen’s daily Social Content Ratings report.<br/><br/>The telecast was punctuated by the misreading of film <em>La La Land</em> as the Oscars winner for Best Picture after presenters Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway were given the incorrect award envelope. Independent film <em>Moonlight</em> was instead awarded the Oscar in the category.</p><p><em>The Oscars</em> easily bested AMC’s <em>The Walking Dead</em>, which drew 610,000 social media interactions, followed by Hallmark Channel’s <em>When Calls The Heart</em>; AMC’s <em>Talking Dead</em> and A&E’s <em>Hoarders Overload.</em></p><p>Fox’s coverage of the 2017 <em>Daytona 500</em> tallied up 3.8 million Facebook and Twitter interactions from 2.2 million unique social media users to lead all live sports events for the day, according to Nielsen.</p>

Introduced late last season, Jack Wagner is also a key cast member,</p><p>The series follows young teacher Elizabeth Thatcher (Krakow) who moves to Coal Valley, an early 20th century coal mining town, for her first classroom assignment. A mine explosion has claimed the lives of most of the community's men, leaving behind their widows—including the kindly Abigail Stanton (Loughlin). The newly widowed women face many challenges as they confront life alone in Coal Valley, including a stint working in the mines to support their families. As Thatcher adapts to the frontier lifestyle, she begins to fall for handsome Mountie Jack Thornton (Lissing). Wagner and James Brolin appeared in the final episodes of the first season, looking to bring justice to the coal mining tragedy.</p><p>Vewers embarking to Coal Valley for the sophomore-season debut with fill find Elizabeth and Jack closer than ever after theri first kiss in the installment entitled “Trials of the Heart."
