Prime Video saddles up for a Western revenge drama in a new trailer for original series The English, debuting November 11.

The six-episode series stars Emily Blunt and Chaske Spencer as two people seeking their own slice of revenge coming together in 1890 middle America to cross a violent landscape built on dreams and blood, according to the streaming service.

The series also stars Rafe Spall, Tom Hughes, Toby Jones, and Ciarán Hinds. The English is executive produced by Hugo Blick, Emily Blunt, Greg Brenman, and Colin Wratten, according to Prime Video.■ 

Western-themed network INSP will debut the second season of its original documentary series Wild West Chronicles on July 28. 

The series follows a newspaper reporter who travels the frontier during the late 1800s to uncover the truth behind the wildest tales of the West, according to the network. The network has already greenlit a third season of the series, which is the network’s most watched original show to date. 

“The debut of Wild West Chronicles had the distinction of being INSP’s highest-rated original series, and we’re looking to have even greater success with the second season,” INSP VP of original programming and development Craig Miller said in a statement. “Some of the little-known history behind the Old West’s most memorable tales that we’ll delve into this season includes learning who took the last shot at the infamous gunfight at the O.K. Corral; how a Texas Ranger finally stopped outlaws from cutting down fences; and why competing silver mining companies started a war underground.” ■

Epix has launched the first video trailer for its upcoming original series Billy The Kid, starring Tom Blyth.

The eight-episode series, written by Michael Hirst (Vikings), is based on the life of famed American outlaw Billy The Kid (Blyth), from his humble Irish roots to his early days as a cowboy and gunslinger in the American frontier, to his pivotal role in the Lincoln Country War and beyond, said network officials.

The series also stars Daniel Webber as outlaw. Billy the Kid is executive produced by Michael Hirst; Donald De Line, Darryl Frank, Justin Falvey, Otto Bathurst, and Toby Leslie.■

Paramount Plus Sunday debuted a first look trailer for its upcoming Western series 1883 during the season four premiere of Yellowstone.

The series, a prequel to the Yellowstone series, debuts on the streaming service Dec. 19 and stars Sam Elliott, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill and Billy Bob Thornton. The show follows the Dutton family as they embark on a journey west through the Great Plains toward the last bastion of untamed America, according to the service.

The 1883 series is executive produced by Taylor Sheridan, John Linson, Art Linson, David Glasser, Ron Burkle and Bo Yari.

INSP has green-lit two additional seasons of its original docudrama series Wild West Chronicles, the network said.

The series, which follows a newspaper reporter who travels the frontier during the late 1800s to uncover the truth behind the wildest tales of the West, is the network’s most-watched originally produced show, with more than 7 million cumulative viewers tuning into the first season through July 14, said Nielsen. Production on the second and third seasons of the series will begin later this year, according to the network.

“We knew early on that we had something special in Wild West Chronicles, and viewers have confirmed it,” said INSP senior VP of programming Doug Butts in a statement. “Each week, audiences came back to hear about the people and the true tales of the American West. Some names are familiar, like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Wild Bill Hickok, and Annie Oakley. But our viewers also loved hearing the true stories of other, unsung trailblazers as well, including Bass Reeves, Doc Susie, Elfego Baca and more.”

HBO’s Emmy-winning western-themed sci-fi series Westworld will premiere its second season on April 22, the network said Sunday.

The drama series, which chronicles the dawn of artificial consciousness and the evolution of sin,  finished its first season as the network’s most watched freshman series ever, said network officials. HBO released the Westworld season two spot during Sunday’s Super Bowl LII telecast on NBC, marking the network’s first Super Bowl ad in 20 years. 

Returning cast members starring in Westworld’s second season include Anthony Hopkins, Evan Rachel Wood, Thandie Newton, Ed Harris and Jeffrey Wright. Westworld was created for television by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, who also serve as executive producers along with J.J. Abrams, Athena Wickham, Roberto Patino, Richard Lewis and Ben Stephenson

AMC has renewed its Western-themed series The Son for a sophomore campaign, the network said Friday.

The series, which stars Pierce Brosnan and chronicles the exploits of a Texas ranching and oil family, will return for a second season in 2018, said network officials.

The first season of the series is currently averaging 2.3 million viewers according to the network. The series is produced by AMC Studios and Sonar Entertainment, and is executively produced by Philipp Meyer, Lee Shipman, Brian McGreevy, Kevin Murphy, Tom Lesinski and Jenna Santoianni. 

“The Son proudly continues our Westerns tradition at AMC, including Broken Trail, Hell on Wheels and decades of films from The Duke, Clint and so many more,” said Charlie Collier, president of AMC, SundanceTV and AMC Studios. “We are so pleased to add to that list another season of our original, multi-generational drama from Philipp Meyer, Kevin Murphy and a remarkable cast led by the incomparable Pierce Brosnan.”

AMC has renewed its western-themed original drama Hell On Wheels for a fifth and final season, the network said Friday.

The fifth season of series, which chronicles the construction of the first transcontinental railroad, will run seven episodes next summer and an additional seven episodes in the summer of 2016, said network officials.

The series is currently averaging 3.4 million viewers (live +3) for the first 10 episodes of season four.

Hell On Wheels' final season announcement follows the network’s plans to end its Emmy Award-winning Mad Men in 2015 after seven seasons.  

“With season five of Hell on Wheels, we are proud to bring our trans-continental journey to conclusion for the large, loyal audience that has traveled with Cullen Bohannon and his crew for so many years,” said AMC President Charlie Collier in a statement. “We look forward to appropriately honoring Hell on Wheels in this final season. Enormous thanks to the terrific writers, cast and crew for all they have achieved and for all that lies ahead in the Wild West.”
