Yale Assure Locks have joined the list of products that can operate and be voice controlled within the Xfinity Home ecosystem.

The locks can be controlled from virtually any location using Comcast’s Xfinty Home mobile app. Users can remotely lock and unlock doors, check lock status and create rules such as to receive lock status notification at a given time, say when the kids get home from school.

The locks can also respond to voice commands via the Xfinity Voice Remote from within the home. Example: “Lock the door.”

Comcast said it now has 1.2 million users of its home automation services.

The Yale Assure Lock line includes a series of smart locks that offer a choice of keyed and tee-free entry. In order to work with Xfinity Home, the locks need to be purchased with a Yale Zigbee Network Module, which retails for around $50. Yale sells four Assure locks that are compatible with the network module.

“Smart door locks can be a meaningful home security addition, especially when combined with other IoT devices like cameras,” said Patti Loyack, VP of IP services and home automation for Comcast Cable, in a statement. “Xfinity’s platform gives consumers the ability to manage and control all of their smart devices in one unified experience and we’re excited to give our customers even more choice by integrating the Assure Lock line from Yale.”

Dish Network said its Hopper subscribers can now use Google Assistant to control their TV experience through a series of voice commands.

Dish customers with a Hopper, a Hopper Duo, Joey, or Wally can control their TVs with only their voice when paired with a Google Assistant device, like Google Home, Android phones or iPhones. Dish is the first pay-TV provider to offer direct compatibility with the Assistant.

"Since we first introduced voice control technology, we've seen our customers really embrace the hands-free TV experience," said Dish vice president of product management Niraj Desai in a statement. "Our collaboration with Google is an exciting opportunity for us to continue meeting demand for voice and changing the way we interact with television."

Customers can ask the Assistant to set recordings, adjust volume and launch apps like Game Finder, Netflix and Pandora. Customers can also use the Assistant to navigate, play, pause, fast-forward, rewind and search content based on channel, title, actor or genre. When using search functionality, the results displayed include Dish's live, recorded and on-demand titles, as well as Netflix's selection of TV shows and movies.

"We want to make it easy and fun for people to turn their living room into a smart entertainment center with the Assistant," said Google Smart Home Ecosystem senior director Michele Turner in a statement. "By working closely with Dish, we'll ensure that customers can easily control their TVs through the Assistant, instead of searching for or having to share the remote."

To take advantage of the voice controls, users need to have a broadband-connected Hopper DVR, Hopper Duo, Joey or Wally and must download the Google Assistant app on their smartphones.

Espial said its cloud-based “Elevate” video platform has added voice support following an integration that makes its managed offering for cable operators and other service providers compatible with all Amazon Alexa-enabled devices such as the Echo, Echo Dot and Echo Show.

The integration enables consumers with those Amazon products to search, discovery and control live TV, VOD and DVR-recorded content with their voice.

Espial’s Elevate platform was derived from Espial’s acquisition of Arris’s Whole Home Solutions business last year. Espial introduced a managed, turnkey IPTV service for operators under the Elevate brand in July.

Espial’s cable operator customers include MCTV; Easton Utilities; HBC (Hiawatha Broadband Communications of Minnesota); Ritter Communications; Shaw Communications; WideOpenWest; Buckeye Broadband; EastLink; Comporium; Consolidated Communications; Service Electric Cable TV, and NOS, a Portuguese service provider.
