Netflix will continue its partnership with prolific producer/writer Tyler Perry with the October 24 premiere of original drama series Beauty in Black.

The 16-part series, part of the multi-year, first-look production deal reached last year between Netflix and Perry, follows two women on very different life trajectories on a course toward each other, according to the streaming service. Taylor Polidore Williams and Crystle Stewart star as strangers entangled in each other’s lives.

Beauty and Black also stars Amber Reign Smith, Ricco Ross, Debbi Morgan, Richard Lawson, and Steven Norfleet.

The first-half of the 16-episode series will debut October 24, with the second half premiering at a later date. The series follows Perry’s original movie, Mea Culpa, which streamed on Netflix this past February.

Disney Plus’s latest Marvel Studios-produced series and FX’s newest Ryan Murphy-produced drama top the list of original TV shows debuting this week. 

Agatha All Along, a sequel to Disney Plus’s Emmy Award-nominated series WandaVision, debuts September 18 on the streaming service. The nine-episode series stars Kathryn Hahn as witch Agatha Harkness, who looks to regain her powers that were lost after being trapped in a New Jersey town at the end of WandaVision, according to Disney Plus. Joe Locke, Aubrey Plaza, Sasheer Zamata, Ali Ahn, and Patti LuPone also star in the series. 

FX’s American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez debuts on September 17 and shines a spotlight on the rise and fall of the football star. The 10-part, Murphy-produced series stars Josh Rivera as Hernandez, as well as Patrick Schwarzenegger, Lindsay Mendez, Ean Castellanos, Tammy Blanchard and Tony Yazbeck.

Paramount Plus's Tulsa King and FX's The Old Man are among several shows returning to the small screen during a busy week of show premieres. 

Tulsa King debuts its second season on September 15 and stars Sylvester Stallone as  New York mafia kingpin Dwight Manfredi, who is exiled to Tulsa by his boss after being released from prison. Season 2 finds Manfredi and his crew continuing to build up and defend their growing criminal empire in Tulsa. The series also stars Martin Starr, Jay Will, Max Casella, Vincent Piazza and Tatiana Zappardino. 

FX's Emmy-nominated drama series The Old Man returns September 12 for its sophomore season. The series stars Jeff Bridges as former CIA agent Dan Chase and John Lithgow as ex-FBI assistant director Harold Harper, who join forces to rescue a woman (Alia Shawkat) after she is kidnapped by a powerful Afghan tribal leader (Navid Negahban). Bridges drew a 2024 Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his role.

Prime Video will examine the history of Black quarterbacks in the NFL in a new documentary series debuting September 24.

The three-part series, Evolution of the Black Quarterback, follows NFL Pro Bowl quarterback Michael Vick as he speaks to former players, as well as celebrities to explore the history and impact of Black quarterbacks on and off the field. 

The documentary features interviews with several past and present Black QBs, including Patrick Mahomes, Jalen Hurts, Cam Newton, Dak Prescott, Donovan McNabb, Warren Moon and Doug Williams, along with such personalities as Common, Deion Sanders, Larry Wilmore, and Jamie Foxx.

Evolution of the Black Quarterback is executive produced by Michael Strahan, Constance Schwartz-Morini and FredAnthony Smith.

The series joins several new Prime Video sports documentaries in development, including a profile of NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt, a four-part series on the history of the Madden video game, an anthology about epic Game 7s and a true-crime documentary about a Kansas City Chiefs superfan and serial bank robber. The streaming service has also greenlit a third season of its Coach Prime docuseries.

The return of its Emmy-nominated Apple TV Plus drama series Slow Horses and Peacock’s premiere of limited series Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist head the list of original show premieres debuting during the first week of September. 

The fourth season of Slow Horses debuts on September 4 with Gary Oldman returning as former British agent Jackson Lamb leading a crew of mistake-laden MI5 agents seeking to solve high-profile cases.  Jack Lowden and Kristin Scott Thomas also star in the series, which drew nine 2024 Emmy nominations.

Peacock's Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist debuts September 5 and follows the story of an armed robbery that takes place on the night of Muhammed Ali's historic comeback fight in 1970. Based on an iHeart true-crime podcast of the same name, the series stars Kevin Hart, Samuel L. Jackson, Taraji P. Henson, Terrence Howard, and Don Cheadle.

The Emmy Award-nominated series Only Murders in the Building debuts August 27, with stars Martin Short, Steve Martin and Selena Gomez returning as podcast friends who solve murder mysteries in their New York apartment building, according to the streaming service. Apple TV Plus' Emmy-nominated drama series Pachinko heads the lineup of new original shows debuting this week.

The sophomore season of Pachinko premieres on the streaming service August 23. The eight-episode series continues the travails of a Korean immigrant family across several generations. The ensemble cast includes Lee Minho, Eunchae Jung, Soji Arai, Anna Sawai and Junwoo Han.

Peacock will premiere all eight episodes of its original horror series Hysteria! on October 18, with USA Network set to air the show”s episodes weekly.

Set during the ”Satanic Panic” era of the 1980s, the series focuses on a high school heavy metal band thato looks to capitalize on the town’s sudden interest in the occult after a beloved varsity quarterback disappears, until a series of murders and kidnappings begins to place an unwanted focus on the band’s members, Peacock said. 

USA and Syfy will simulcast the series premiere episode, with USA airing subsequent episodes every Friday night, according to Peacock. 

Hysteria! stars Julie Bowen, Anna Camp, Emjay Anthony, Chiara Aurelia, Kezii Curtis and Nikki Hahn. The series is executive produced by John Francis Daley, Jonathan Goldstein, Chris Bender and Jake Weiner.

Peacock drama series Bel-Air and Netflix dramedy Emily in Paris launch new seasons during a busy, upcoming summer week for TV show premieres. 

Bel-Air, a reimagining of NBC’s 1990s comedy series Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, returns August 15 for its third season on Peacock. Along with series regulars Jabari Banks, Olly Sholotan, Coco Jones, Adrian Holmes and Cassandra Freeman, Marlon Wayans and Joseph Marcell — who starred in the ’90s sitcom — will make appearances during Season 3, according to Peacock.

Also returning for Season 4 on August 15 is Emily in Paris. It continues to follow the exploits of an American marketing executive’s juggling of work, friends and romance after landing a dream job in Paris. The series stars Lily Collins, Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, Ashley Park, Lucas Bravo and Samuel Arnold. Netflix will air the first five episodes of season four, with the second half debuting September 12.

Netflix’s fantasy series The Umbrella Academy and Paramount Plus drama series SEAL Team debut their final seasons during the first full week of August.  

The Umbrella Academy launches its fourth and final season on August 8 and continues to follow a group of estranged siblings with superpowers who are reunited after the death of their father. In the upcoming Season 4, the siblings will have to face formidable enemies without their powers, according to Netflix. The series stars Elliot Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher and Justin Min. 

Paramount Plus’ Seal Team premieres its seventh and final season on August 11. The series, which airs its first five seasons on CBS, follows an elite unit of Navy SEALs who trains, plans and executes dangerous, high-stakes missions around the world. SEAL Team stars David Boreanaz, Max Thieriot, Jessica Pare, Neil Brown Jr. and A.J. Buckley.

Netflix’s drama series A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder and Prime Video’s Batman: Cape Crusader animated series highlight the list of new, original series, films and specials debuting this week. 

The six-episode A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder debuts August 1 and stars Emma Myers as a 17-year-old high school student investigating the murder of another student who was killed five years prior, according to Netflix. Zain Iqbal, Anna Maxwell Martin, Gary Beadle, Mathew Baynton, India Lillie Davies, Rahul Pattni, Henry Ashton, Mitu Panicucci and Orla Hill also star in the series.

Apple TV Plus’s adaptation of the 1981 fantasy adventure film Time Bandits tops the list of original shows during the last full week of July.

The 10-episode series, based on the Terry Gilliam film of the same name, launches July 24 and follows an 11-year-old history buff who joins a ragtag group of time-traveling thieves on a high-stakes adventure, Apple TV said. Lisa Kudrow and Kal-El Tuck star.

A month after it premiered, crime drama Presumed Innocent has gotten a second season order from Apple TV Plus. Jake Gyllenhaal plays a prominent prosecutor. 

David E. Kelley and J.J. Abrams are producers. 

Ruth Negga, Bill Camp, Elizabeth Marvel and Peter Sarsgaard are also in the cast. 

Gyllenhaal’s character Rusty, a husband and father, is romantically linked with a co-worker who is murdered. “The series takes viewers on a gripping journey through the horrific murder that upends the Chicago Prosecuting Attorney’s office when one of its own is suspected of the crime,” Apple TV Plus says. “The series explores obsession, sex, politics and the power and limits of love, as the accused fights to hold his family and marriage together.”

There are eight episodes in season one, which shows its finale July 24. 

Scott Turow’s novel Presumed Innocent came out in 1987 and the movie, directed by Alan J. Pakula and starring Harrison Ford, was released in 1990. 

Kelley, Abrams, Gyllenhaal, Rachel Rusch Rich, Dustin Thomason and Matthew Tinker are executive producers on the show, and Turow is a co-executive producer. Kelley is the showrunner. 

Bad Robot Productions and David E. Kelley Productions produce Presumed Innocent in association with Warner Bros. Television.

Exploding Kittens, an animated series based on the card game, debuts on Netflix July 12, and has some heavy hitters among its producers. They include Mike Judge, Greg Daniels and Peter Chernin. 

Judge, Daniels and Dustin Davis are executive producing for Bandera Entertainment. Chernin and Jenno Topping are doing so for the Chernin Entertainment Group. 

The show sees God get fired and sent to Earth to reconnect with humanity. But he’s trapped in the body of a house cat. He moves in with a dysfunctional family and tries to solve their problems, but is distracted by the laser pointers he keeps chasing, and by the Antichrist cat living next door. 

The voice cast includes Tom Ellis, Sasheer Zamata, Suzy Nakamura, Mark Proksch and Ally Maki. 

“The result is the ultimate fight between good versus evil…except, Godcat (Ellis) is distracted by a pigeon he saw in the yard and Devilcat (Sasheer Zamata) is busy napping on someone’s laptop,” according to Netflix. 

The card game sees players try to avoid drawing an Exploding Kittens card, which are scattered in with other cards, including Attack, Defuse, Nope and Skip. 

Matthew Inman, who is behind the cartoon site The Oatmeal, created the franchise, with Elan Lee, and is creator, showrunner and executive producer, with Shane Kosakowski, on the series. Lee is an executive producer too. 

A review in the Los Angeles Times said: “Family and friendship are the themes, threaded through the mayhem, and because the central characters are underdogs — even the gods trapped in their furry feline bodies — we root for them, as disgust turns to affection, competition to cooperation, and lost love is found again. It’s corny as … hell, but it’s genuine corn. You might let your kids watch, depending, of course, on your kids.”

Judge’s credits include Beavis and Butt-Head and King of the Hill. Daniels’ include The Office and King of the Hill. 

Chernin was chief operating officer at News Corp. before focusing full-time on production. He is co-founder and partner at The Chernin Group.  

FX has set September 12 for the return of its Emmy-nominated drama series The Old Man and September 17 to premiere its limited series American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez.

Josh Rivera stars as Hernandez along with Jaylen Barron, Lindsay Mendez, Ean Castellanos, Tammy Blanchard, Tony Yazbeck, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Thomas Sadoski, Jake Cannavale and Norbert Leo Butz.

The Ryan Murphy-created series is also executive produced by Murphy, Stuart Zicherman, Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, Alexis Martin Woodall, Eric Kovtun, Scott Robertson, Carl Franklin, Hernan Lopez, Marshall Lewy, Linda Pizzuti and Ira Napoliello.

Also set to debut in September is comedy series English Teacher, starring Brian Jordan Alvarez as a high school teacher in Austin, Texas who often finds himself at the intersection of the personal, professional and political aspects of working at a high school. The eight-episode series, which debuts September 2, also stars Stephanie Koenig, Sean Patton and Enrico Colantoni.

Debuting September 27 on FX is Social Studies, a character-driven documentary series that FX said delves into the lives of the first generation raised on social media. The five-episode series follows a diverse group of Los Angeles-based teens who offer an intimate glimpse into how social media has reshaped childhood.

Marvel Television's Agatha All Along trailer looks to scare up interest in the WandaVision spinoff series set to debut September 18 on Disney Plus.

The series stars Kathryn Hahn reprising her role as powerful witch Agatha Harkness, who appeared in the 2021 Disney Plus series WandaVision. Disney Plus describes the series plot as Harkness finding herself down and out of power after a suspicious goth teenager helps break her free from a distorted spell. Together, they pull together a desperate coven and “set off down, down down The Road,” Disney Plus said. 

Along with Hahn, the series stars Joe Locke, Sasheer Zamata, Ali Ahn, Maria Dizzia and Paul Adelstein. Agatha All Along is executive produced by Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Brad Winderbaum, Mary Livanos and Jac Schaeffer.

Marvel and Disney Plus’s WandaVision, which starred Elizabeth Olsen, was nominated for 23 Emmy Awards in 2021. A second WandaVision spinoff based on the character Vision from the series is in development, according to published reports.

Sunny, an Apple TV Plus mystery series starring Rashida Jones, and MGM Plus’ Forest Whitaker-led drama show Emperor of Ocean Park are among the original TV shows debuting this week. 

Sunny debuts Wednesday (July 10) and stars Jones as an American woman living in Japan who, after her husband and son disappear in a plane crash, receives a domestic robot named Sunny to help fill the void in her life. Initially rejecting the robot, she eventually builds an unexpected friendship with Sunny as she investigates what really happened to her family, Apple TV Plus says. The 10-episode series also stars Hidetoshi Nishijima and Joana Sotomura. 

MGM Plus’ Emperor of Ocean Park premieres July 14 and stars Whitaker as a prominent judge who dies from a suspicious heart attack and follows his family’s efforts to determine the truth about his death. The series also stars Grantham Coleman, Tiffany Mack and Paulina Lule.

NCTA – The Internet & Television Association has produced a 20-minute documentary showcasing the challenges and perils cable crews face as they lay fiber in rural America. 

In the doc, Every Last Mile: The Untold Story of Connecting Rural America, a Mediacom crew races against time and weather in frigid conditions to lay fiber in Lakewood Township, Minn, a community near Duluth with a population of around 2,000 people and an average annual snowfall of about 86 inches. 

In Congress, Arizona, a Cox Communications crew faces extreme heat of up to 115 degrees, as well as challenging rock topography, as it tries to deliver high-speed internet for the first time to a seminal gold rush community. 

And far north, in King Cove, Alaska, a community of 800 residents on the Aleutian Peninsula located 497 miles southwest of mainland Alaska, GCI crews struggle to avoid underground utilities which have locations that have not been precisely recorded. 

“The film is being used to highlight both the importance and challenges of connecting every community to modern internet service,“ NCTA communications chief Brian Dietz told us Thursday. “We all know about the importance of reliable internet and how high-speed internet changes the lives of people, but we don’t often focus enough on the hard work required on the ground to bring this critical infrastructure to rural and remote communities that are still waiting to be connected. This docufilm captures that story.”

Streaming service Max will add Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Entertainment’s monster-themed theatrical film Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire film to its lineup beginning July 4.

The film, the fifth in Legendary’s Monsterverse movie franchise, follows Kong’s search to find his family through an undiscovered layer of Hollow Earth, and his eventual teaming with rival Godzilla to battle a dangerous threat to mankind inadvertently uncovered during Kong’s journey, according to Max.

A version of the film with American Sign Language (ASL) will also stream exclusively on Max the same day, said the streaming service.

The film, which stars Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry and Dan Stevens, earned $196 million at the domestic box office since its March 29 theatrical release, according to Box Office Mojo. 

Legendary’s Monsterverse theatrical films, including Godzilla (2014), Kong: Skull Island (2017), Godzilla: King of Monsters (2019) Godzilla vs. Kong (2021) and Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire have grossed more than two billion dollars globally at the box office.

Legendary Television and Apple TV Plus this past April renewed a second season of its Monarch: Legacy of Monsters drama series, which is based on the Monsterverse films. 

Prime Video has released the trailer for the animated series Batman: Caped Crusader. Based on DC characters, the J.J. Abrams series premieres August 1. Prime calls it “a reimagining of the Batman mythology.”

“Welcome to Gotham City, where the corrupt outnumber the good, criminals run rampant and law-abiding citizens live in a constant state of fear,” the network says. “Forged in the fire of tragedy, wealthy socialite Bruce Wayne becomes something both more and less than human — the BATMAN. His one-man crusade attracts unexpected allies within the GCPD and City Hall, but his heroic actions spawn deadly, unforeseen ramifications.”

The voice cast includes Hamish Linklater, Jamie Chung, Diedrich Bader, Christina Ricci, Minnie Driver, Mckenna Grace and Eric Morgan Stuart. 

The show was initially ordered at HBO Max, as it was known at the time, but the project was canceled in 2022. 

Abrams, Matt Reeves and Bruce Timm executive produce, along with Ed Brubaker, James Tucker, Daniel Pipski, Rachel Rusch Rich and Sam Register. Warner Bros. Animation, Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions and Reeves’ 6th & Idaho produce the show.

The return of Emmy Award-winning comedy series The Bear and the premiere of Apple TV Plus’s limited drama series Land of Women highlight the lineup of original content debuting during the last week of June. 

FX-produced The Bear launches its third season on Hulu June 26 and continues to follow the fortunes of a small food shop turned fine dining restaurant, according to FX. Emmy winners Jeremy Allen White and Ayo Edebiri star in the 10-episode third season.  

Apple TV Plus on June 26 will premiere drama series Land of Women, starring Eva Longoria as a woman who flees to Spain with her mother and daughter to escape danger due to her husband’s financial issues. Santiago Cabrera and Carmen Maura star in the eight-episode series.

BBC America and AMC’s spinoff of Emmy Award-winning drama series Orphan Black and Netflix’s Black Barbie documentary highlight the list of original shows debuting during the Juneteenth holiday week. 

Orphan Black: Echoes premieres June 23 and takes place more than 30 years after the original human cloning-themed Orphan Black series, which ran on BBC America from 2013-2017. Orphan Black: Echoes stars Krysten Ritter and follows a group of women who find their way into each other’s lives as they seek to uncover the truth about their identities, according to AMC and BBC America.  

Netflix’s documentary Black Barbie debuts June 19, and tells the untold story of three trailblazing women at Mattel who created the first Barbie doll who looked like them in a quest for better representation and diversity. Starz has set a November return for the seventh season of drama series Outlander.

The network said eight remaining episodes of Outlander's seventh season will debut November 22, more than a year after the June 2023 premiere of the season's first eight episodes. The series, which stars Catriona Balfe and Sam Heughan, is currently in production for its eighth and final season.

Starz also announced the addition of several new cast members for time-traveling drama's eighth season, including Kieran Bew, Frances Tomelty and Carla Woodcock.

Starz's Outlander prequel series, Blood of My Blood, is currently in production.

Along with Balfe and Heughan, Outlander stars John Bell, Richard Rankin, Sophie Skelton, David Berry, Charles Vandervaart, Izzy Meikle-Small and Joey Phillips.

History will team with LeBron James’s The SpringHill Co. to chronicle Jesse Owens’ historic performance in the 1936 Berlin Olympics as part of a documentary set to debut June 19, according to a new trailer.

The documentary, Triumph: Jesse Owens and the Berlin Olympics, showcases the U.S. Olympic sprinter’s dominance during the 1936 games, winning four gold medals while triumphing over Adolf Hitler's Aryan supremacy agenda, according to the network. 

The two-hour project, narrated by Don Cheadle and inspired by Jeremy Schapp’s book Triumph: The Untold Story of Jesse Owens and Hitler’s Olympics, will feature archival Olympic footage and interviews from Owens, his family members, journalists, historians and other athletes, said the network.

Triumph: Jesse Owens and the Berlin Olympics is the first of a three-part development deal between the network and SpringHill that will prioritize largely unknown historical stories that put diverse changemakers at the forefront of each narrative, according to History.

Along with James and Cheadle, the documentary is executive produced by Maverick Carter, Jamal Henderson, Philip Byron, Andre Gaines, Richard Foster, Chet Fenster, Eli Lehrer and Jennifer Wagman.

History’s documentary series The Great War highlights a light schedule of original shows set to debut during the Memorial Day holiday week.

The two-part The Great War premieres May 27 and chronicles the U.S. involvement in World War I in 1918, according to History Channel. The four-hour series, executive produced by Robin Roberts, concludes on May 28.

A lot goes into making The Walt Disney Co.’s upfront presentation.

Transforming a section of the Jacob Javits Convention Center into a space where nearly 4,000 attendees will experience Disney’s storytelling Tuesday afternoon takes more than magic.

More than 150 people worked in preproduction and there were 450 people involved in the actual production, which will use the theme “Connections” to illustrate how Disney Advertising brings audiences and brands together with Disney’s portfolio of media, entertainment and sports.

Material and production elements were shipped in from seven states.

The custom-built presentation space features 350 feet of linear LED tile, designed to immerse the audience in the sight, sound and motion of Disney’s content. There will be four “cosmic hero” screens, each one 34 feet wide by 24 feet tall.

LED lighting technology called Vanish overlays content in front of programmed lighting on-screen to create a more interactive viewing experience. Disney says the effect recalls theatrical lighting.

All of the equipment and technology ensures that attendees will feel and hear the content throughout the space.

The post-presentation reception will feature a 22-piece string orchestra from Elan Artists that will play modern renditions of tunes from Disney classics.

A dynamic 100-foot long, 10-foot high LED wall with 3D elements will highlight Disney stories. There will also be several interactive and immersive brand activations that will enable buyers and sponsors to take pictures at the College Game Day desk, at the ABC News weather booth or with giant Mickey Mouse ears.

There will be a DJ, Pauli Lovejoy, at the preshow and party. Photographer Brian Bowen Smith will be snapping away in a custom-built portrait studio.

Assisting Disney in putting together the production were NMR Events, a stage engineering and product company, and brand experience agencies Pinerock and MC², which helped support the guest experience and put on the afterparty.

And of course, there will be a bevy of stars from upcoming Disney movies, television shows and streaming productions on stage.

Disney did not say how much all of this costs.

Netflix will look to heat up television screens again with the return of its drama series Bridgerton, while Apple TV Plus examines the life of Black Panther Party founder Huey P. Newton in The Big Cigar as part of the list of shows premiering this week. 

The Shonda Rhimes-produced Bridgerton returns for a two-part, third season launching May 16. The series will continue to follow the lives and loves of eight Bridgerton family siblings, with the newest season focusing on Colin Bridgerton, according to the streaming service. Luke Newton stars along with Nicola Coughlan, Claudia Jessie, Hannah Dodd, and Luke Thompson.

Apple TV Plus’s The Big Cigar debuts May 17 and stars Andre Holland as Newton, who enlists the help of a Hollywood film producer to elude the FBI and escape to Cuba in the 1970s, according to the streaming service. The series also stars Alessandro Nivola and Tiffany Boone.

Two thriller-themed original series return to the small screen during the first full week of May.

AMC’s Interview with the Vampire debuts its second season May 12 and will continue to follow character Louis de Pointe du Lac, who continues to describe his life as a vampire to journalist Daniel Molloy. Jacob Anderson, Sam Reid and Eric Bogosian return to the series — based on the acclaimed Anne Rice novel of the same name — in season two.  

Debuting May 9 is the second season of Max series Pretty Little Liars: Summer School. The new season follows the events of season one, subtitled Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin, and focuses on five high-school girls attending summer school. Amid their fun summer jobs and love interests, a new villain comes to town that will put them all to the test. The series stars Bailee Madison, Chandler Kinney, Zaria, Malia Pyles and Maia Reficco.

Lifetime will mark the 30th anniversary of the murder of Nicole Brown Simpson with a two-night documentary set to air in June. 

The Life and Murder of Nicole Brown Simpson will air June 1 and June 2 and will look to give a voice to the ex-wife of football star/actor O.J. Simpson in an effort to shed new light on her life and tragic death, according to Lifetime.

The documentary will feature 50 participants as well as exclusive home videos and interviews as it reveals "shocking" new details in the tragic story, said Lifetime. Brown, along with friend Ron Goldman, was murdered in 1994. O.J. Simpson, her ex-husband, was arrested, tried and eventually acquitted for the crimes in what has been referred to as “the trial of the century.” 

Simpson died in April at age 76.

As part of the documentary, Lifetime is collaborating with National Domestic Abuse Hotline, and providing vital assistance to the organization to take on even more calls, according to the network.

The Life and Murder of Nicole Brown Simpson is produced by Bunim/Murray Productions, with Jesse Daniels, Melissa Moore, Rit Saraswat, Brie Miranda Bryant, Kim Chessler, and Julie Pizzi serving as executive producers.

Oxygen will mark 20 years of its reality crime series Snapped with a two-hour special in May.

The show’s anniversary special debuts May 12 on Oxygen and promises to include new updates to the show's “craziest” Snapped cases, according to the network. The series, which debuted on Oxygen in 2004 and has chronicled the lives of women who lost control and were charged with murder, is currently in its 33rd season, according to the network. Overall, Snapped will have aired 646 episodes by the end of the current season, Oxygen said. 

The series, one of the first shows launched in the now-burgeoning true crime genre, has spawned three spinoffs, including Snapped: Killer Couples, Snapped: Behind Bars, and Snapped: Notorious.

The current season of Snapped is on track to be the shows strongest-performing season ever, averaging 725,000 total viewers in multiplatform viewing, per Nielsen figures supplied by Oxygen.

Max’s Emmy Award-winning comedy series Hacks season three premiere highlights the list of original series debuting this week.  

Hacks returns for its third season on May 2 with Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder in starring roles. A year after the pair parted ways, Hack's new season finds Smart’s character, Deborah Vance, riding high off of the success of her standup special while Einbinder’s Ava pursues new writing opportunities in Los Angeles. 

The series also stars Paul Downs, Megan Stalter, Carl Clemons-Hopkins and Kaitlin Olson. 

Hulu on April 30 will premiere drama series The Veil, starring Elisabeth Moss as an international spy attempting to avert a potentially disastrous terrorist attack. The six-part mini series also stars Dali Bensallah, Josh Charles and Yumma Marwan.

Investigation Discovery will delve into the lives and careers of Nick Carter and Aaron Carter in a new documentary series set to debut May 27. 

The series Fallen Idols: Nick and Aaron Carter, focuses on the fraught dynamic of the Carter family, from their rise to fame in the late 1990s and early 2000s to their headline-making struggles in recent years, according to the network. 

According to ID, The documentary, produced by ISH Entertainment, explores the 2017 accusations of sexual assault against Backstreet Boys member Nick Carter by three women while also diving into the mental health and substance abuse struggles of Nick's brother and singer Aaron, leading to Aaron's tragic death in 2022.

“Fallen Idols explores the dark side of fame and fraught family dynamics but also the intense challenges faced by accusers who come forward against celebrities and pop culture icons in today’s modern world,” the network said.

The pay-per-view boxing category is set for a busy spring with several marquee events scheduled on the heels of Saturday’s Devin Haney-Ryan Garcia card.

Prime Video and Premier Boxing Champions will distribute a June 15 PPV boxing card with a co-main event featuring lightweight champion Gevonta Davis against Frank Martin and super middleweight champion David Benavidez battling former light heavyweight champion Oleksandr Govdyk, the streaming service announced. 

The event is Prime Video’s third scheduled PPV boxing event this year. On May 4, the service will offer the fight between super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez and undefeated contender Jaime Munguia. It also distributed the March 30 Tim Tszyu-Sebastian Fundora fight.

Also on the schedule is DAZN’s May 18 PPV heavyweight unification fight between champions Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury. 

The upcoming slate of PPV boxing events follows Saturday’s DAZN-distributed Haney-Garcia bout, in which Garcia upset the prior undefeated junior welterweight champion. While PPV buys have yet to be released for the fight, boxing observers said Garcia’s win positions the boxer and social media star for future lucrative PPV fights. Garcia’s 2023 fight with Davis drew more than 1 million PPV buys.

Apple TV Plus’s The Big Door Prize is one of several scripted series returning for new seasons in the last full week of April. 

Comedy The Big Door Prize returns for season two on Wednesday (April 24) and continues to follow the exploits of residents of a small town who gather around a magical grocery store machine that seemingly promises to reveal their true potential. Chris O’Dowd, Gabrielle Dennis and Josh Segarra star in the 10-episode season.

Max's animated series Velma, based on the Velma Dinkley character from the Scooby-Doo franchise, returns for a second season April 25. The 10-episode second season follows Velma, voiced by Mindy Kaling, as she seeks to balance her detective work with her newfound popularity.

Netflix has shared the first trailer from One Hundred Years of Solitude, a series based on the esteemed novel by Gabriel García Márquez. The streamer is on board for 16 episodes. 

The series shoots in Colombia and Claudio Cataño, Jerónimo Barón, Marco González and Susana Morales are in the cast. It is filmed entirely in Spanish. Alex García López and Laura Mora direct. 

No premiere date has been shared other than the debut happening this year. 

The novel was published in 1967. Netflix acquired the rights in 2019. At the time, Francisco Ramos, VP, Spanish-language originals at Netflix, said: “We are incredibly honored to be entrusted with the first filmed adaptation of One Hundred Years of Solitude, a timeless and iconic story from Latin America that we are thrilled to share with the world. We know our members around the world love watching Spanish-language films and series and we feel this will be a perfect match of project and our platform.”

The novel is about cousins José Arcadio Buendía and Úrsula Iguarán, who marry against their parents’ wishes and leave their village in search of a new home. Their journey culminates with the founding of a utopian town on the banks of a river of prehistoric stones that they name Macondo. “Several generations of the Buendía lineage will mark the future of this mythical town, tormented by madness, impossible loves, a bloody and absurd war, and the fear of a terrible curse that condemns them, without hope, to one hundred years of solitude,” according to Netflix. 

Garcia Márquez won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1982. He died in 2014 and his final novel, Until August, was released earlier this year. 

Executive producers on the series are Diego Ramírez Schrempp, Juliana Flórez Luna, Andrés Calderón, Josep Amorós, Carolina Caicedo, Alex García López, Laura Mora, José Rivera, Rodrigo García and Gonzalo García Barcha. 

Garcia and Garcia Barcha are the author’s sons. When the project was announced in 2019, Garcia said: “For decades our father was reluctant to sell the film rights to Cien Años de Soledad because he believed that it could not be made under the time constraints of a feature film, or that producing it in a language other than Spanish would not do it justice. But in the current golden age of series, with the level of talented writing and directing, the cinematic quality of content, and the acceptance by worldwide audiences of programs in foreign languages, the time could not be better to bring an adaptation to the extraordinary global viewership that Netflix provides.”

A chance encounter in an elevator reunites Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder's characters in the third season of Max’s Hacks, according to the official trailer for the Emmy Award-winning series’s new season debuting May 2.

After a season-two split between Smart’s Deborah Vance and Einbinder’s Ava, season three finds Deborah in the midst of a career comeback, while her former writer, Ava, struggles without her. 

Along with Smart and Einbinder, the series stars Paul Downs, Carl Clemons-Hopkins, Kaitlin Olson, Megan Stalter and Rose Abdoo.

 A video game-based sci-fi series and an espionage-themed thriller lead the list of original programs premiering this week. 

Prime Video on April 11 will debut Fallout, a post-apocalyptic drama series based on the video game franchise of the same name. The eight-episode series follows a group of people living in luxury fallout shelters who are forced to return to a highly complex and violent universe, according to the streaming service. Walter Goggins, Aaron Moten, Ella Purnell and Moises Arias star in the eight-episode series. 

On April 14, HBO will premiere limited drama series The Sympathizer, which follows the exploits of a half-French, half-Vietnamese communist spy during the final days of the Vietnam War, according to HBO. Academy Award winner Robert Downey Jr. stars along with Sandra Oh, Hoa Xuande, Fred Nguyen Khan and Toan Le.

The producers and cast of Apple TV Plus comedy series Loot promise more laughs and character development for its second season, which debuts on the streaming service April 3. 

Maya Rudolph returns as rich divorced philanthropist Molly Wells, who in season two continues to head up her own charitable foundation but looks to work on her personal life while helping those who work for her. Also starring in the show are Michaela Jae Rodriguez, Nat Faxon and Joel Kim Booster. 

Loot creator and executive producer Alan Yang said at January’s TCA Winter Press Tour that season two will continue to follow Molly’s exploits, but will also feature more of the other main characters. “Just seeing the chemistry of this ensemble and how they played so well together, it made us really want to just go bigger, faster and funnier in season two,” he said. “We went into their personal lives and into their aspirations as characters, and it just felt more and more magical as we progressed.”

The first week of April opens with several series returning for new seasons, including the final season of Paramount Plus drama Star Trek: Discovery.

The Star Trek spinoff series launches its fifth and final season April 4 as the crew of the U.S.S. Discovery travels across the galaxy to find an ancient power whose existence has been deliberately hidden for centuries, according to the streaming service. Sonequa Martin-Green stars as Capt. Michael Burnham, along with Doug Jones, Mary Wiseman, Wilson Cruz and David Ajala.

Debuting April 3 is the second season of Apple TV Plus comedy Loot, starring Maya Rudolph as a rich divorcée who decides to take over a charitable organization she had forgotten she founded. Also starring in the series’ sophomore campaign are Michaela Jae Rodriguez, Joel Kim Booster, Ron Funches and Nat Faxon.

Hallmark Channel on April 7 will return its long-running drama series When Calls the Heart for an 11th season. The series will continue to follow the lives of the townspeople of Hope Valley, a small Canadian town. Erin Krakow returns to star in season 11 along with Pacale Hutton, Jack Wagner and Kavan Smith.

AMC’s drama series Parish leads a limited lineup of original shows debuting during the week of Easter.

Parish debuts March 31 and stars veteran actor Giancarlo Esposito as a taxi driver whose dark past is revived after the murder of his son. Also starring in the six-part series are Arica Himmel, Paula Malcomson, and Skeet Ulrich.  

Premiering March 29 is Apple TV Plus' Steve! (Martin) A Documentary in 2 Pieces, a documentary film focused on the iconic comedy/actor. Martin Short, Tina Fey and Selena Gomez appear in the two-part profile.

Peacock will examine the life of WWE wrestler Bray Wyatt in a new documentary set to debut April 1.

The show, Bray Wyatt: Becoming Immortal, looks at the career of the late Windham Rotunda, aka Bray Wyatt, who was considered by observers as one of the most skillful,  tenacious and creative WWE Superstars of all time, according to Peacock. 

The documentary, narrated by Mark William "The Undertaker" Calaway, features interviews from WWE Superstars Hulk Hogan, Jon Cena, Becky Lynch, Triple H and Rotunda's brother Taylor Rotunda, as well as never-before-seen footage from the WWE archives, according to Peacock. 

Prime Video’s remake of the 1989 action film Road House and Netflix's series based on the life of political icon Shirley Chisholm lead the list of original series and films debuting this week.

Road House premieres March 21 and follows the exploits of a former UFC fighter turned bouncer for a bar in the Florida Keys, only to discover that it's not all it seems. Jake Gyllenhaal stars in the lead role played by Patrick Swayze in the 1989 film of the same name. Also starring in the movie are Jessica Williams, Lukas Gage and Conor McGregor. 

Shirley debuts March 22 and stars Emmy and Oscar winner Regina King as Shirley Chisholm, the first Black woman to be elected to Congress. Lance Reddick, Lucas Hedges, and Terrence Howard also star in the series.

Peacock's mystery drama Apples Never Fall, and Netflix's debut of music-themed series Girls5eva lead the list of original content debuting this week. 

The seven-episode series Apples Never Fall -- based on Liane Moriarty's bestselling novel -- debuts March 14 and follows a seemingly perfect family whose lives get turned upside down when the matriarch goes missing and family secrets begin to surface. The series stars Sam Neill, Annette Bening, Jack Lacy and Alison Brie.

The third season of music comedy series Girls5eva debuts on Netflix March 14, after Peacock streamed the series' first two seasons. The new season will continue to follow the exploits of a one-hit wonder girl group who reunite hoping to resurrect their musical careers.

Hallmark Media today (March 6) rebrands its Hallmark Movies & Mysteries channel to Hallmark Mystery to better reflect its commitment to the mystery movie genre. 

The Hallmark Mystery channel plans to launch several new mystery series in 2024, including its first historical mystery, Gilded Newport Mysteries: Murder at the Breakers. Hallmark Media executive VP of programming Lisa Hamilton Daly said Hallmark Mystery's new brand and on-air look will help the network continue to stand out from the clutter of mystery-themed programming currently in the television marketplace. 

“There is a lot of fun, mystery programming out there, but I feel ours has a special look and feel that appeals to our viewers,” Daly said. “The rebranding of the channel calls attention to that focus.”

Netflix’s new fantasy-themed original movie and Nat Geo’s latest wildlife-themed documentary top a light list of original shows debuting during the first full week of March.

Netflix’s Damsel debuts March 8 and follows a young woman who marries a prince but finds out that she is to be sacrificed to a fire-breathing dragon to pay an ancient debt. The movie stars Millie Bobby Brown, Angela Bassett, and Robin Wright. 

The seven-part Queens documentary premieres March 4, and chronicles the plight of female-led animal societies. The series is narrated by Angela Bassett.

National Geographic will explore explores female-led groups of animals in the wild in a new documentary series, Queens, debuting March 4. 

The seven-episode series, narrated by Academy Award-winner Angela Bassett, looks  at societies in the animal kingdom led by matriarchies and female leaders who let nothing come between them and the success and safety of their families, according to the network.

Executive producer Vanessa Berlowitz said the series not only offers an exclusive look at female leaders in the wild, but also marks the first wildlife series produced by an all-female production crew. 

“We were able to do two firsts in one go,” she said. 

Added showrunner/writer Chloe Sarosh: “There’s been a focus shift in the scientific community where the lens had been looking from the alpha males to the females. We realize now that it ‘s not so clear cut and their societies are more complex and more nuanced.” 

Netflix's limited series Griselda is enjoying a nice run on the streaming service as the Sofia Vergara-starrer is drawing viewers both domestically and abroad.

The series currently ranks as the third most watched show globally on Netflix, according to the streaming service's weekly audience performance report, after ranking first on Netflix during the week of its January 25 debut.

Griselda follows the real-life exploits of Colombian businesswoman and drug "queenpin" Griselda Blanco, portrayed by former Modern Family star Vergara. The series is executive produced by Narcos creators Carlo Bernard and Doug Miro. 

Martin Rodriguez, who plays Blanco’s right hand man Jorge "Rivi" Ayala in the series, said he was excited by the positive reception the show has received thus far.

“It’s a nice moment for the show,” he said. “[Griselda] was made by people who know how to tell a story very well.”
