AMC Plus Floats January Debut Date for 'Mayfair Witches' in Series Trailer

AMC Plus will debut its new drama series Anne Rice's Mayfair Witches on January 5, 2023, according to a new trailer released Thursday during New York Comic Con.

The eight-episode series, based on Rice’s best-selling trilogy Lives of the Mayfair Witches, focuses on a young neurosurgeon who discovers that she is the unlikely heir to a family of witches. As she grapples with her newfound powers, she must contend with a sinister presence that has haunted her family for generations, said the streaming service.

Mayfair Witches stars Alexandra Daddario, Jack Huston, Tongayi Chirisa and Harry Hamlin. The series is executive produced by Mark Johnson, Esta Spalding and Michelle Ashford.

The series is the second for AMC Networks based on Rice's works: Anne Rice's Interview With The Vampire debuted on AMC October 2. ■

Showtime Orders Vampire Series 'Let the Right One In'

Showtime has given a series order to vampire-themed series Let the Right One In, the premium service said Wednesday.

The series, inspired by a Swedish novel and movie of the same name, follows a father who cares for his 12-year old vampire daughter. The series stars Demián Bichir, Anika Noni Rose, Grace Gummer, Madison Taylor Baez, Kevin Carrol, Ian Foreman and Jacob Buster.

Production of the series will begin in New York City next year. Andrew Hinderaker will serve as showrunner and executive producer along with Seith Mann, Marty Adelstein and Beck Clements.

In 2010 an American version of Let the Right One In, was released in theaters. Let Me In starred Chloe Grace Moretez and Kodi Smit-McPhee.

Syfy Takes Stab at 'Van Helsing'

Syfy has purchased Nomadic Pictures’ sci-fi action series Van Helsing and will premiere the show in fall 2016, the network said Monday.

The 13-episode series follows the resurrection of legendary vampire killer Van Helsing’s daughter Vanessa Helsing five years into the future to help humans fight vampires bent on taking over the world, said the network.

Director Neil LaBute has been tapped as the showrunner for the series, which will begin production in January 2016.

“Van Helsing reimagines a classic story in a compelling new way, featuring a bold and complex heroine”, said Chris Regina, Syfy senior vice president, program strategy, said. "This high-octane acquired original series will be a terrific addition to our lineup next year."

Added Chad Oakes, co-chairman of Nomadic Pictures: “Van Helsing represents a new mythology in sci-fi by challenging traditional vampire rules.The series is unique in exploring a world completely dominated by vampires, while the human characters have to learn the importance of working together to ensure their survival.”
