Also going dark to Dish customers are Univision's FOROtv, TLNovelas and El Rey channels.

Dish has argued that the Univision networks are not broadly watched by its customers and that those who do can access the channels either through over-the-air antennas or directly from the programmer via its online apps.

Related: Ergen: Dish Would Face Customer Backlash if Univision Returned

Dish lost about 367,000 satellite TV customers in the third quarter, losses that were almost all attributed to the Univision blackout.

In a statement Univision said the failure by Dish to reach a deal for Deportes could mean even more subscribers leave the Dish fold. As a result of the latest dispute, Dish customers will lose access to more than 1,100 top soccer matches and major tournaments each year.

“Dish has now gutted its Spanish-language offering, which until recently was a core part of its business,” Univision said in a statement, adding that it has made “every reasonable effort” to reach an agreement.

Related: Ergen: Univision Blackout is 'Probably Permanent'

“Given that Dish experienced its worst-ever quarterly subscriber losses after dropping the bulk of Univision’s networks and stations, its unwillingness to recognize the power of Hispanic consumers and the popularity of Univision’s leading news, sports and entertainment programming is bizarre and disappointing,” Univision continued. “Moving forward, we will continue to use the full power of the Univision portfolio to encourage our audience to find a TV provider that is dedicated to serving Hispanic America.”

In a statement Dish said it offered to extend its agreement with Deportes while negotiations continued, but Univision refused.

“Instead, Univision has blocked Deportes, FOROtv, TLNovelas and El Rey from DishLatino customers,” Dish said in its statement. “The Univision story remains the same: its content, on the whole, continues to decline in viewership, and as a result, the economics of their proposals do not make sense. Meanwhile, Univision continues to sell its direct-to-consumer product, Univision NOW, at a lower price than Univision proposes charging Dish customers. We don’t think that’s right.”

Dish added that it is making up for the lost Univision channels by giving DishLatino customers a $5 monthly credit, replacement content and in markets where Univision is available over the air, free antennas.

The tournament pits teams from CONCACAF and CONMEBOL member nations in a format similar to the World Cup.

While the first ball won't be kicked until June 3, Univision Deportes is already in pregame mode. Airing each Monday at 9 p.m. is America Redonda - Camino a la Copa America Centenario. The weekly show features an in-depth look at everything leading up to the tournament.

Hosts Luis Omar Tapia, Diego Balado, and José Luis López Salido will conduct exclusive interviews with the managers/head coaches of the participating teams, including Juan Carlos Osorio (Mexico), Jürgen Klinsmann (United States) and Gerardo Martino (Argentina).

Additionally, Univision Deportes has set airdates of April 10, May 1 and May 15 for the 60-minute investigative feature Expediente. Featuring an in-depth look at failures and successes in the world of sports, the show is hosted by Adriana Monsalve, Lindsay Casinelli, Alejandro Berry and Iván Kasanzew and will focus solely on the tournament for its third season.

Meanwhile, Univision Deportes viewers can watch some of the best Copa America matches from years past, as they will be replayed daily until the start of this year's tournament.

Meanwhile, ESPN Deportes has already released its coverage schedule of the 2016 International Champions Cup tournament, which begins July 23 at 12:30 p.m. ET with Scotland’s Celtic vs. England’s Leicester City and concludes August 13 with Celtic vs. Italian side Inter Milan.

The ICC matches are part of an agreement with Relevent Sports granting ESPN the U.S. English-language and Spanish-language rights to the tournament through 2018.

“The ICC is a great complement to our lineup of marquee international events this summer led by UEFA Euro 2016,” ESPN senior vice president of programming Scott Guglielmino said. “We look forward to showcasing some of the best soccer brands in the world across our media platforms to our bilingual soccer fans.”

And North American Soccer League (NASL) fans can now follow their favorite teams on beIN Sports, thanks to a rights deal with the second-tier U.S. pro soccer league that runs through 2017. Network coverage kicked off April 2 with Miami FC vs. the Fort Lauderdale Strikers.

“With our new partnership with NASL firmly in place, we’re betting big on North American programming rooted in a growing U.S. fan base,” beIN Sports managing director Yousef Al-Obaidly said. “Featuring some of the country’s top professional soccer talent, this acquisition represents the first time we hold the rights to a domestic soccer league, further showcasing our commitment to providing access to the best sports leagues and events, both here and abroad.”

The NASL is comprised of 12 teams in the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico and uses a split-season schedule running from April to early November, with a four-week break in July.

“We're obviously very excited to announce our new partnership with beIN Sports,” said NASL Commissioner Bill Peterson. “Like the NASL, beIN Sports has quickly grown in importance and stature across North America. Our savvy pro soccer fans here in North America are watching beIN Sports on a regular basis, and now they'll be able to watch exciting and competitive NASL action every week.”

The New York Cosmos enter the 2016 season as defending champions, and will face additional competition as three new teams make their NASL debut this spring: Oklahoma City-based Rayo OKC, owned by Spanish club Rayo Vallecano; Miami FC, co-owned by Italian soccer legend Paolo Maldini; and Puerto Rico FC, owned by New York Knicks star Carmelo Anthony.

Of course, beIN Sports's mainstay soccer telecasts are the likes of "El Clasico," the Spanish La Liga contests between F.C. Barcelona and Real Madrid. The latest rendition, on April 2 from Barcelona's Camp Nou, ended in a 2-1 victory for the visiting team, with the late, winning goal coming from Cristiano Ronaldo. The broadcast averaged more than 1.9 million total viewers across the English and Spanish language channels and dominated on social media: on a tweets per unique author basis it had the most socially engaged audience of any sporting event on the day, including two Final Four games in the NCAA basketball tournament on TBS, beIN Sports said. The most-tweeted moment of the game was when Ronaldo scored the winning goal: 11,000 tweets at 4:15 p.m., according to the programmer, citing Nielsen. In Spanish, it was the top soccer telecast year to date against all cable networks regardless of language, the programmer said.

And if things don’t turn out that way, we’ll explain why we missed them.”

He added that “we realize that everybody can’t fly to Brazil, but we want to make sure that everybody watching feels like there.”

Shoulder programming aside, Univision will deploy 32 cameras for its match coverage, up from the dozen it typically uses for its presentations of the most-viewed futbol circuit in the U.S., LigaMX.

Digitally, users will also be able to keep pace with the World Cup and other soccer action via its recently introduced app, powered by streaming leader NeuLion.

Univision Deportes will make the first 56 World Cup matches and related content, plus other soccer fare available to any user, before serving up the money end of the tournament to authenticated Univision video subscribers. Rodriguez said the U.S. Spanish-language media leader would promote its TV Everywhere initiative during its tourney coverage, encouraging user sign-in. The final eight WC matches will be available digitally only to verified subscribers.

The new ad-supported app, which kicked off late last month and trades on NeuLion's Sports Platform, proffers interactive access to high-quality, live streaming coverage of games with in-match, virtual real-time highlights and stats, video highlights, schedules, individual club news, rosters and more. The app, playing on computers, smartphones and tablets, can be personalized to fans’ favorite teams and preferred views of the soccer world; it can be downloaded across both iTunes and Android platforms.

As the countdown to the FIFA World Cup Brazil 2014 continues, fans will be able to follow the action using the hashtag #UDMundial across social platforms on Twitter via @UnivisionSports, as well as comment and follow all related content Facebook.com/UnivisionDeportes and Instagram/UnivisionDeportes.

Among the features demonstrated by Univision senior vice president of products Scott Levine and NeuLion executive vice president Chris Wagner were near real-time highlight clips that become available within a couple of minutes of the action, and post-match reels that present a truncated version of the best and brightest that occurred during the contest.

As to the World Cup set-up in Brazil, Univision will soon ship its pre-fabricated sets from Colombia to Brazil, while its pre-wired production, editing and control facilities will migrate from Long Beach, Calif. to the host nation next month. An additional 100 Univision executives will decamp to Brazil, beginning on June 1.

With soccer’s continued ascendancy and a more favorable time differential from South America to the States than during the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, Rodriguez is anticipating a 20% rise in ratings with the 2014 event. All told, Univision netted its highest audience levels ever for any World Cup in 2010 averaging 2.4 million total viewers, 1.4 million persons 18 to 49, 760,983 people 18 to 34 and 932,920 persons to 12 to 34, which represented gains of 15%, 6%, 9%, and 7%, respectively, over the 64-game averages for the 2006 competition from Germany. The 2010 coverage was topped by the 8.8 million average viewers for Spain's win over The Netherlands in the final, the most-watched WC championship game in Univision history and the third-largest Spanish-language telecast in U.S. ever, behind the 9.41 million watchers for the round-of-16 game between Mexico-Argentina on June 27, 2010 and the finale of novella Destilando Amor (Essence of Love), which drew 9.02 million on Dec. 3, 2007.

Although he wouldn’t specify a volume figure, Rodriguez is very happy with the company’s position on the advertising front on what will be the programmer’s final World Cup until at least 2023. (Telemundo and Fox outbid Univision and ESPN for rights to the FIFA fare from 2015 through 2022.)

“The sales staff has been out for more than a year and secured many commitments,” he said. “[Brazil] will be the most successful World Cup for Univision from a sales perspective.”

Rodriguez concluded by saying that Univision has three game plans in place, depending on what could happen in Brazil, where there are threats of widespread demonstrations, as citizens are expected to protest, among other things, the nation’s great economic disparity, while the rest of the globe centers its focus on the World Cup.

“Plan A is where everything goes smoothly in Brazil,” he said, adding that Univision will marshall all of the resources from its entertainment, news and sports divisions under Plan B to present an accurate account of what’s taking place if things get somewhat out of hand on the ground. Conversely if things became too dangerous, Plan C calls for Univision to broadcast the tournament from Miami.

Whatever the case, Rodriguez expressed confidence: “We’re ready.”
