                                <p><a href="https://www.nexttv.com/tag/cnn">CNN</a> will debut the seventh season of its Emmy Award-winning documentary series <em>United Shades of America with W. Kamau Bell </em>on July 10, the network said Tuesday.</p><p>The series stars comedian and political provocateur Bell as he visits communities across America to explore race, class, and the unique challenges they face.  Bell&apos;s destinations for the seventh season include Appalachia, to explore largely unknown population of Black Americans who call the area home; Boston, to examine the mental health issues affecting the sport world; Hawaii, to uncover how the island has been commodified by an exploitative tourism industry following the COVID-19 pandemic and New York City, to discuss Asian American representation in film and media, revealing the commonality between his own experience and theirs, said CNN.</p><p>“For the last seven years, <em>United Shades</em> <em>of America </em>has been a cornerstone of the CNN Original Series brand and Kamau’s unparalleled ability to weave his natural curiosity and sense of humor together have ignited many important – and at times vital – conversations around race and society in this country,” said Amy Entelis, Executive Vice President for Talent & Content Development, CNN Worldwide in a statement.  “We are excited to join Kamau on another personal and witty odyssey across America.”</p><p>Added Bell: “Neither COVID, nor misinformation, nor political gridlock, nor the gloom of the feeling that American democracy is crumbling will keep me from my appointed duty of traveling the country for another season of <em>United Shades of America</em>. </p><p><a href="https://www.nexttv.com/news/content-spotlight-w-kamau-bell-on-why-we-need-to-talk-about-cosby">Also: Content Spotlight: W.                                 <p>Netflix garnered more Creative Arts Emmy Awards wins than any other content distributor during a ceremony last night, according to the Television Academy.</p><p>The streaming service won 15 Creative Arts Emmy Awards Saturday night in the first of two ceremonies celebrating technical, guest acting roles and other categories. CNN, NBC, Fox, HBO, YouTube, CBS and VH1 also won multiple awards.</p><p>Other programs with multiple wins included <em>Love, Death & Robots</em>, <em>Our Planet</em> and <em>Queer Eye</em> (Netflix); <em>Age of Sail</em> (YouTube), <em>RuPaul’s Drag Race</em> (VH1), <em>Saturday Night Live</em> (NBC), <em>Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown</em> and <em>United Shades of America with W. Kamau Bell</em> (CNN); <em>Last Week Tonight with John Oliver</em> (HBO), and <em>Rent</em> (Fox).</p><p>Also last night, 97-year old legendary producer Norman Lear became the oldest winner in Emmy history, taking home the statuette for Outstanding Live Variety Special for ABC's  <em>Live in Front of a Studio Audience: Norman Lear's All in the Family</em> and <em>The Jeffersons, a re-staging </em>of two of Lear's iconic 1970's comedies with contemporary casts.</p><p>A complete list of 2019 Creative Arts Emmy winners can be found <a href="https://www.emmys.com/sites/default/files/press/2019-creative-arts-winners-saturday-v1.pdf">here</a>. Kamau Bell discusses his CNN series (VIDEO)</p><p>CNN has picked up a second season of its unscripted original series <em>United Shades of America with W. Kamau Bell,</em> the network said Wednesday.</p><p>The series, which follows comedian Bell as he uses comedy to start a conversation about race and how our differences unite and divide us, will return for an eight-episodes second season next spring, said network officials.</p><p><em>United Shades of America</em> ranked as the most watched show among adults 25-54 across cable news in its time period and attracted the youngest audience. </p><p>“We are beyond thrilled with the positive response <em>United Shades of America</em> received in its freshman season,” said Amy Entelis, executive vice president of Talent and content development for CNN Worldwide in a statement. “Kamau has an unparalleled ability to use his natural curiosity and sense of humor to ignite necessary and sometimes tough conversations around race and society in this country.” </p>
