Paramount Plus has ordered the series Crutch, a comedy that is a spinoff of CBS comedy The Neighborhood. Tracy Morgan stars. 

The show “will be set in the world of” The Neighborhood, Paramount Plus said. Morgan plays Frank “Crutch” Crutchfield, a Harlem widower whose empty-nest plans are dashed when his millennial son and free-spirited daughter move back home with him. Executive producer Cedric the Entertainer, who plays Calvin Butler in The Neighborhood, called Crutchfield “the close cousin” of Butler.

From Cedric The Entertainer and his production company, A Bird and a Bear Entertainment, the series is executive produced by Cedric and Eric C. Rhone, along with Owen Smith, who wrote the premiere script and will be showrunner; Aaron Kaplan for Kapital Entertainment; Wendi Trilling for TrillTV; and Tracy Morgan. 

Smith was showrunner and executive producer on TBS series The Last O.G., in which Morgan starred. 

“Our subscribers love CBS’s The Neighborhood, so it’s a natural fit to bring Crutch to Paramount Plus,” said Jeff Grossman, executive VP of programming, Paramount Streaming. “We can’t wait to see what the immense talents behind Crutch — Tracy Morgan, Cedric The Entertainer and Owen Smith — bring to this new series.”

The Neighborhood is about a white family from Michigan that moves to a mixed neighborhood in Los Angeles. The family moves next door to Cedric’s character Calvin. 

CBS renewed The Neighborhood for season seven.  

“I’m excited to be expanding our The Neighborhood universe, by producing a show with the legendary comedian Tracy Morgan,” Cedric the Entertainer said.  “This new character is the close cousin to my character Calvin Butler and you will enjoy some of their many similarities. Morgan plays Crutch, a ‘say-it-like-it-is’ widowed father who is challenged when his two adult children and a couple of grandchildren need to move back home, and let’s say there will be several comedic complications.”    

The Last O.G. went four seasons on TBS.  

"Crutch will be navigating the ups and downs of having his kids and grandkids back under one roof, and you know if I am doing this, there will be plenty of laughs along the way,” Morgan said. “I am so happy to be able to do this with my brother Cedric the Entertainer, Owen Smith and the rest of the amazing crew we have put together. TBS will debut a new season of its comedy series The Last O.G. on Oct. 26, the network said Thursday.

Series star Tracy Morgan will return for the fourth season of the comedy series, joining Ryan Gaul, Taylor Mosby, Dante Hoagland, Anna Maria Horsford and Da’Vine Joy Randolph. Also, Janet Hubert (The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air), Malik Yoba (First Wives Club), Wood Harris (The Wire) and Gary Dourdan (CSI: Crime Scene Investigation) will serve as guest stars, according to TBS. 

Season three of The Last O.G. reached 20 million viewers across TBS’ linear and digital platforms, according to the network.

The 10-episode fourth season of the series, executive produced by Morgan, Jordan Peele, Owen Smith, Eric and Kim Tannenbaum, Joel Zadak, Mike Mariano and Steve Ast, will debut with back-to-back episodes, with an additional eight episodes to air weekly.

TBS will bring back its comedy series The Last O.G. for a second season on April 2, the network said Tuesday.

The sophomore campaign of the series, which stars Tracy Morgan and Tiffany Haddish, will also feature such guest stars as Method Man, Rev. Run, Anna Maria Horsford and Joshua Rivera.

The series is executive produced by Morgan, Jordan Peele, Eric and Kim Tannenbaum, Saladin Patterson and Joel Zadak. 

TBS said it has ordered a second season of the new comedy series The Last O.G. and ordered a third season of Search Party along with signing a development deal with Search Party executive producers Sarah-Violet Bliss and Charles Rogers.

The Last O.G., starring Tracy Morgan and Tiffany Haddish, debuted on April 3 and has ranked as the top cable comedy of 2018, according to TBS. Its executive producers include Jordan Peele and the cast also includes Cedric the Entertainer.

Search Party stars Alia Shawkat, Meredith Hagner, John Early, John Reynolds and Brandon Micheal Hall and grew by double-digits in its second season, according to TBS, which also said it was the network's top series on digital and "became the fastest TBS original to reach one million views on VOD in season one."

TBS said executive producers Bliss and Rogers, who created the series with executive producer Michael Showalter, will continue to oversee Search Party while also developing and producing new projects exclusive to Turner in television and digital programming.  

As Tracy Morgan recovers from a car accident, FX Networks indicates that the show he was scheduled to make with FX Productions will proceed when the actor is up for returning to work.

Morgan suffered multiple injuries in a traffic accident in New Jersey on Saturday, when the limo he was traveling in flipped over after being rear-ended by a Wal-Mart truck.

FX Networks and FX Production issued the following statement: “The only thing we are concerned with is the health and recovery of Tracy Morgan and the victims of this tragic accident.  We will support Tracy and his family in every way possible throughout his recovery.  At the point when Tracy has recovered and decides that he is ready to go back to work, his show will be waiting for him.  Right now our thoughts and prayers remain with Tracy, the other victims of the accident, and their families."

In April, FX ordered a 10-episode series from FX Productions with the former 30 Rock star working on the 30-minute comedy show created by Rob McElhenney, Charlie Day, Glenn Howerton  -- the executive producers/showrunners/stars of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Luvh Rakhe (writer Sunny, New Girl).  The untitled series was scheduled to begin production in August and slated to debut in January on FXX.

Morgan has reportedly suffered a broken nose, leg and ribs. Morgan's comedy writer friend James "Jimmy Mack" McNair was killed in the crash, while his assistant Jeff Millea and fellow funnyman Ardie Fuqua were also hospitalized in critical condition.
