Starz will debut its original limited series The Spanish Princess on May 5, the network said Thursday.

The Spanish Princess, the third installment following miniseries The White Queen and The White Princess, focuses on the life of Catherine of Aragon, told uniquely from the point of view of women, and sheds light on the lives of people of color living and working in 16th century London. The series is produced by Playground and All3 Media’s New Pictures and, like the first two installments, is drawn from the global best-selling novels of Philippa Gregory.

"Catherine of Aragon has generally been depicted negatively, as an unwanted and burdensome wife, so this story of her early years as a strong, driven young woman and shrewd political player is a fresh and untold tale,” said The Spanish Princess showrunners Emma Frost and Matthew Graham in a statement. “We are also especially pleased to be able to bring into the light the inspiring story of people of color in early Tudor England.” 

Starz has greenlit production for limited series The White Princess, a followup to it’s 2015 The White Queen miniseries event.

Emma Frost (The White Queen, The Man in the High Castle, Shameless) will serve as showrunner and executive producer of the eight-part series, which tells the story of England’s War of the Roses from the perspective of the women.

The White Princess is based off of the best-selling novel of the same name by Philippa Gregory, who also serves as executive producer for the limited series.

 “The White Queen was a phenomenal performer at Starz, averaging 4.8 million multiplatform viewers per episode in the United States,” Carmi Zlotnik, managing director for Starz, said in a release. “There is a dearth of programming that tells women’s stories and The White Queen was embraced with great success by audiences worldwide The passionate fanbase for Philippa Gregory’s historical novels are undeniable and we are confident The White Princess will become the next must-see fandom drama series.”

Starz Digital Media has signed a content licensing agreement giving Amazon Prime Video online distribution rights to premium channel Starz's original miniseries The White Queen.

Amazon Prime Instant Video will be the exclusive subscription-only streaming service in the U.S. to carry the 10-episode drama, while the miniseries will also remain available on Starz channels and services, noted Mara Winokur, senior vice president, digital, at Starz.

The White Queen stars Rebecca Ferguson as Queen Elizabeth and Janet McTeer as Jacquetta Woodville. Both actresses were nominated for Golden Globes for their performances. Max Irons, playing King Edwad IV, and James Frain, as Richard Neville, costar.

The Golden Globe and Emmy nominated original miniseries is based on the historical novels from Philippa Gregory's New York Times best-selling series, The Cousins War Set during England’s War of the Roses, it tells the story of three women vying for England’s throne during one of the most tumultuous times in the country’s history.
