Drama The Idol will not see a second season on HBO. The show, from Sam Levinson, debuted June 4. 

Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye and Reza Fahim created the series alongside Levinson. 

The Weeknd and Lily Rose-Depp were in the cast. 

Depp’s pop star Jocelyn sustained a nervous breakdown that ended her tour, but she is determined to come back as the biggest, sexiest star in the nation. The Weeknd plays Tedros, a dodgy nightclub impresario. 

Troye Sivan, Dan Levy and Da’Vine Joy Randolph are also in the cast. 

“The Idol was one of HBO’s most provocative original programs, and we’re pleased by the strong audience response," HBO said in a statement. "After much thought and consideration, HBO, as well as the creators and producers have decided not to move forward with a second season. We’re grateful to the creators, cast, and crew for their incredible work.”

Executive producers are Levinson, Tesfaye, Fahim, Kevin Turen, Ashley Levinson, Joe Epstein, Aaron L. Gilbert for BRON, and Sara E. White. Levinson, creator of HBO hit Euphoria, directed all the episodes. 

Reviews were mostly unkind. Rolling Stone called the show “twisted torture porn.” NPR described The Idol as “stylish yet oddly inert.”

HBO has set a June 4 premiere date for its new original series The Idol, the latest series from Euphoria creator Sam Levinson. 

The series stars Lily-Rose Depp as a struggling pop star recovering from a nervous breakdown who meets up with a nightclub impresario with a sordid past who looks to resurrect her career and fame, according to the network. (For video, viewer discretion is advised.)

Grammy award-winning singer Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye also stars in the series along with Reza Fahim, Dan Levy, Joy Randolph and Hank Azaria.

The Idol is created and executive produced by Levinson, whose Euphoria drama series has won nine Emmy Awards for its first two seasons, including two for series star Zendaya in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series category.

Tesfaye also serves as executive producer along with Fahim, Kevin Turen, Ashley Levinson, Joseph Epstein, Aaron Gilbert and Sara White.

R&B artists The Weeknd and Bruno Mars garnered the most Soul Train Awards 2015 nominations Friday, according to Centric which will air the Awards ceremony in November.

The Weeknd and the duo of Mars & Mark Ronson each earned five nominations, including nods for" Video Of the Year," "Song Of The Year" and The Ashford & Simpson Songwriter’s Award, said Centric.

Beyoncé, Chris Brown, Jidenna, and Tyrese follow with four nominations, said Centric, which will air the Soul Train Awards 2015 on Nov. 29 at 8 p.m.
