Movie studio STXfilms has found a second streaming distribution partner for its feature-film remake of French thriller My Son starring James McAvoy and Claire Foy.

The movie will debut on the free-to-consumer Roku Channel on Dec. 15, two months after its free-streaming premiere on NBCUniversal's Peacock on Sept. 15. 

The somewhat unique windowing--what would have been a 90-day theatrical window seems to be getting split up here--is notable for two reasons: one is STXfilms' determination to monetize a title at a time when COVID-19's Delta surge is once again curtailing U.S. theatrical attendance; another is Roku's increasingly strong will to provide original programming for its fast-growing AVOD/FAST Roku Channel platform. 

“We’re thrilled to have worked with Peacock and Roku on this bespoke deal that uniquely tailors everyone's needs and maximizes value for all three companies and our talent partners,” said STXfilms Motion Picture Group Chairman Adam Fogelson, in a statement. “The real winners are the Peacock and Roku audiences, who will have the chance to see a daringly original, star-driven movie on the platform of their choice."

We’re excited to be partnering with STXfilms to deliver even more great programming, like My Son, to users of The Roku Channel.”

A&E steps back into the live documentary arena with the April 22 debut of Live Rescue, one of several new and returning series making their debuts this week.

Live Rescue, a spinoff of A&E’s successful series Live PD from Big Fish Entertainment, will follow first responders from across the country as they put their lives on the line responding to emergency rescue calls, according to network executives.

Also this week AMC’s The Son, a family saga based on Philipp Meyer’s best-seller of the same name starring Pierce Brosnan, returns for its second and final season on April 27, said the network.

AMC will launch the final episodes for two of its original scripted series Into the Badlands and The Son later this spring, the network said Saturday during its Television Critics Association winter press tour session.

The network’s martial-arts drama Into The Badlands will end its three-season run with its final eight episodes beginning March 24 -- following an episode of The Walking Dead -- before moving into its regular time slot on March 25, said network officials.

The Son, starring Pierce Brosnan, will end after its second season, which launches on April 27, said the network. The Son is produced by AMC Studios and Sonar Entertainment.

The network also announced that it has opened up a writers’ room for a potential new series 61st Street, from Peter Moffat (Criminal Justice, The Night Of,) and Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society (David Makes Man).

In other AMC Networks news, BBC America set premiere dates for season 26 of Top Gear (April 25) and Luther (June 2); while IFC will bring back Brockmire for a third season April 3.

AMC has renewed its Western-themed series The Son for a sophomore campaign, the network said Friday.

The series, which stars Pierce Brosnan and chronicles the exploits of a Texas ranching and oil family, will return for a second season in 2018, said network officials.

The first season of the series is currently averaging 2.3 million viewers according to the network. The series is produced by AMC Studios and Sonar Entertainment, and is executively produced by Philipp Meyer, Lee Shipman, Brian McGreevy, Kevin Murphy, Tom Lesinski and Jenna Santoianni. 

“The Son proudly continues our Westerns tradition at AMC, including Broken Trail, Hell on Wheels and decades of films from The Duke, Clint and so many more,” said Charlie Collier, president of AMC, SundanceTV and AMC Studios. “We are so pleased to add to that list another season of our original, multi-generational drama from Philipp Meyer, Kevin Murphy and a remarkable cast led by the incomparable Pierce Brosnan.”
