CNN will re-visit the 1970s in a new six-hour series premiering this summer.

The eight-part series The Seventies, produced by actor/producer Tom Hanks, Gary Goetzman (John Adams) and Mark Herzog (Gettysburg), will examine the decade through its politics, culture and historic events. The first episode in the series will focus on television and how shows like M.A.S.H, All In The Family, Saturday Night Live and Monday Night Football helped shape the culture of the decade.

Other episodes will focus on the Watergate scandal, the repercussions of the Vietnam War, the sexual revolution and the rise of terrorism at home and abroad.  

The series is a follow-up to CNN’s The Sixties 10-part series which aired earlier this year. The network will feature a marathon airing of the series beginning Nov. 22.

In an effort to promote The Sixties, the network’s new series executive produced by Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman, CNN will open an exhibit at Vanderbilt Hall in New York City’s Grand Central Station.

The exhibit is titled A Look Into The Sixties, and it features various artifacts related to that decade of American history and relevant to the content of the series. The contents of the exhibit vary from political artifacts — such as the bench from the Alabama jail cell where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. wrote Letter from a Birmingham Jail — to pop culture items like posters from the 1969 Woodstock Festival. 

The items have all been loaned by 11 Smithsonian-affiliated museums as well as the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Museum and private collectors.    

The exhibit will be open to the public beginning Tuesday, May 27 and running through Friday, May 30. There were also be various panels and discussions about artifacts in the space throughout the exhibit’s duration.  

The Sixties premieres on CNN on Thursday, May 29 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT.
