ABC won the Tuesday prime ratings battle, with an airing of 2019 movie The Lion King leading the way. ABC got a 0.7 in viewers 18-49, per the Nielsen overnights, and a 4 share. That beat NBC’s 0.6/4. 

Jon Favreau directed The Lion King. ABC’s prime ended with a news special on the Georgia senate elections at 0.4. 

NBC had the season starter for Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist at 0.5. This Is Us got a 1.0 and Nurses shot up 50% for a 0.3. 

CBS got a 0.5/3 and Fox a 0.4/3. CBS had repeated dramas. 

On Fox it was two-hour special Gordon Ramsay’s American Road Trip. 

Telemundo and Univision both rated a 0.3/2. Telemundo had El Domo del Dinero at a flat 0.2 and Todo Por Mi Hija down 25% for a 0.3, then Falsa Identidad at a level 0.3. 

Univision had Vencer El Desamor at 0.4 and Imperio de Mentiras at 0.3, both flat, then Dulce Ambicion down 33% for a 0.2.

The CW got a 0.1/1. World’s Funniest Animals got a 0.1 and a repeat of Masters of Illusion followed. 

Walt Disney Studios celebrated Thanksgiving this year by releasing the official teaser trailer for its live-action remake of the classic movie The Lion King. We partnered with emotion measurement AI company Canvs and social video analytics company Tubular Labs to check out fans’ response and the trailer’s performance.

The trailer has been the most-watched teaser recently released by Disney, according to Tubular’s V3 rating, racking up 32.3 million views on Facebook and 31 million on YouTube within the first three days. (Note: the comparative list included Incredibles 2, Ralph Breaks the Internet, Toy Story 4 and Mary Poppins. It’s also worth noting that when the list is expanded to include the 2017 live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast, a teaser for that movie shared by Emma Watson is tops in Facebook views as measured by Tubular’s V3 metric, with 47.6 million views.)

As you’d imagine, the internet exploded with excitement, and video creators rushed to give their own take on the first glimpse: in the last week, there were over 4,600 videos uploaded that mentioned “The Lion King” in the title, accumulating 202 million views on Facebook and 85 million views on YouTube.

According to Canvs, from Nov. 22-28, there were 33,775 Emotional Reactions (ERs) to The Lion King teaser trailer on YouTube. Excitement and Love were nearly tied for the most-elicited emotions.

Notably, Mufasa (once again voiced by James Earl Jones) was one of the topics driving the most emotion among viewers of the trailer, surpassing the star of the film, Simba (voiced by JD McCrary and Donald Glover). A good portion of the commenters talked about the prospect of seeing Mufasa die again.

Emmy-winning actor Robery Guillaume died Tuesday at the age of 89, according to press reports. 

Guillaume, who battled prostate cancer, was best known for its role as Benson DuBois in two 1980s ABC sitcoms, Soap and Benson. Guillaume would win an Emmy Award from each show for portraying the quick-witted character.

Guillaume also starred in the ABC sitcom Sports Night from 1998-2000 and narrated the HBO animated children’s series Happily Ever After: Fairy Tales for Every Child from1995 to 2000. Guillaume also starred in several theatrical films throughout his career, including serving as the voice of the mandrill Rafiki in The Lion King film.

Guillaume was also an accomplished theater actor, earning a 1977 Tony nomination for his performance of Nathan Detroit in Guys and Dolls. He was also the first African-American to sing the title role of Phantom of the Opera, according to the Associated Press.

The Nov. 22 premiere of Disney Channel’s The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar movie showed some ratings teeth, generating 4.1 million viewers.

The sequel to Disney’s popular The Lion King film and pilot episode for its The Lion Guard series premiering in 2016 was the top primetime cable TV telecast this year among kids 2 to 5 and the most watched animated telecast across kid-targeted TV networks among total viewers, according to Nielsen Live +3 ratings.

The Lion Guard also drew a strong adult audience, with one-third of viewers falling within the adult 18-49 demo, according to Disney.

Overall, The Lion Guard: Return Of The Roar averaged 5.4 million viewers when factoring in Nielsen Live +3 ratings, according to Disney.

Disney Channel will premiere its original animated movie The Lion Guard: Return Of the Roar on Nov. 22, the network said Friday.

The movie, a spin-off of Disney’s The Lion King film, will feature the voices of Rob Lowe, Gabrielle Union and James Earl Jones, who will reprise his role as Mufasa from the original film, said the network.

The Lion Guard, which will debut as a series in 2016, will premiere on the WATCH Disney Channel app as well as the WATCH Disney Junior app on Nov. 23, said network officials.

Disney Channel will look to build on The Lion King franchise with the November debut of a new original movie The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar, network executives said Wednesday.

The movie, a precursor to The Lion Guard television series premiering in 2016, follows Kion, the second-born cub of Simba and Nala as he assumes the role of leader of the Lion Guard, a team of animals tasked with preserving the Pride Lands, said the network.

James Earl Jones and Ernie Sabella will reprise their roles from The Lion King as Mufasa and Pumbaa, respectively. Rob Lowe will serve as the voice of Simba, with Gabrielle Union as Nala and Max Charles as Kion.

Ford Riley (Special Agent Oso) will serve as executive producer, with Howy Parkins (Jake and the Never Land Pirates) as the film’s director.
