AMC’s The Walking Dead: The World Beyond will usher in several new series, movies and specials debuting in the first few days of October.

The Walking Dead: The World Beyond debuts Oct. 4 and takes place several years after the zombie apocalypse that set the stage for the original The Walking Dead series, and follows the exploits of four young adults who have grown up in the midst of the world’s collapse. 

Also debuting on Oct. 4 is Showtime’s series The Good Lord Bird, based on the novel by James McBride.

Limited series The Good Lord Bird, from Ethan Hawke, debuts on Showtime Oct. 4. Hawke, Joshua Caleb Johnson, Daveed Diggs, Steve Zahn and Hubert Point-Du Jour are in the cast. 

Based on a book by James McBride, the series is told from the point of view of Onion (Johnson), an enslaved boy who becomes a member of John Brown’s family of abolitionist soldiers and takes part in the 1859 raid on the U.S. Armory at Harpers Ferry. 

Hawke plays Brown. 

Blumhouse Television produces the show. Executive producers are Jason Blum, Ethan Hawke, Ryan Hawke, Mark Richard, Padraic McKinley, Jeremy Gold, Marci Wiseman, Albert Hughes, James McBride, Brian Taylor, Marshall Persinger and David Schiff. 

In a statement, Ethan Hawke and James McBride said the series “uses fiction and satire to tell a wild story through a wild kid who lived during a wild time.”

Showtime will debut its new limited drama series The Good Lord Bird in August, the network said Tuesday.

The series, based on the novel by James McBride, premieres Aug. 9 and follows a fictional enslaved boy who becomes a member an abolitionist soldier outfit and eventually finds himself participating in the famous 1859 raid on the U.S. Armory at Hapers Ferry. The seven-part original series weaves a humorous, dramatic and historical tapestry of Antebellum America, spotlighting the complicated and ever-changing racial, religious and gender roles that make up the American identity, said network officials. 

The Good Lord Bird stars Ethan Hawke, Joshua Caleb Johnson, Ellar Coltrane, Hubert Point-Du Jour and Beau Knapp.
