Taye Diggs and Nicole Byer will host The 27th Annual Critics Choice Awards on The CW and TBS Jan. 9. The awards celebrate the best in film and television. 

“Excited to be again hosting The Critics Choice Awards with Miss Nicole Byer,” said Diggs. “It’s always a fun time and Miss Byer is hilarious. Very much looking forward to it!”

“Ooooh! What a nice treat, I am so excited to be hosting The Critics Choice Awards with Taye!” said Byer. “Oh, the gowns, the stars, the attention... on ME on a stage cohosting!  I’m very excited for all of it.” 

Diggs stars in All American on The CW. His movie work includes How Stella Got Her Groove Back, Chicago and Til Death Do Us Part. His theater credits include Rent, Carousel and Wicked. 

Byer is a co-host on TBS series Wipeout and hosts Nailed It! on Netflix. She’s in upcoming NBC comedy Grand Crew and was in MTV’s Girl Code. 

“This is definitely going to be the best Critics Choice Awards show ever,” promised Critics Choice Association CEO Joey Berlin. “Imagine Taye and Nicole up in front of a big, beautiful room full of all the biggest stars in film and television--all dressed to kill, drinking champagne and hoping to win. It’s going to be a blast!”

It is the first time The Critics Choice Awards is on both The CW and TBS. The event is produced by Bob Bain Productions and Berlin Entertainment. ■ 

Peacock will create a limited series based on The Best Man film franchise, the streaming service said Tuesday.

The 10-episode The Best Man: Final Chapters will chronicle the present lives of characters from the 1992 film and its 2013 sequel as relationships evolve and past grievances resurface in the unpredictable stages of midlife crisis meets midlife renaissance, said the service. Actors Morris Chestnut, Melissa De Sousa, Taye Diggs, Regina Hall, Terrence Howard, Sanaa Lathan, Nia Long and Harold Perrineau will reprise their roles from the movies.

The Best Man: Final Chapters will be executive produced by Malcolm Lee (The Best Man) and Dayna Lynne North. 

“We're excited to reunite this beloved cast for a limited series run of ‘The Best Man’ for Peacock,” said Susan Rovner, chairman, entertainment content, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming. “With a powerhouse duo like Malcolm and Dayna at the helm, fans will fall in love with our favorite group of friends all over again.” 

TNT has ordered 10 episodes for the second season of Murder in the First, a series which averaged more than 4.7 million viewers in its first season.

Starring Taye Diggs and Kathleen Robertson, the crime drama placed in the top 10 cable series of the summer. Emmy winner, Steven Bochco, and Eric Lodal are the executive producers of Murder in the First.

The first season was solely based around a two-part mystery homicide investigation, which ended up relating back to each other in the end.

Through TNT’s platforms, the drama had an average of 9.2 million viewers in live television, DVR playback, set-top VOD and digital on-demand.
