                                <p>Another day, another online content issue that has legislators alarmed and ready to grill <a href="https://www.nexttv.com/tag/big-tech">Big Tech</a>.</p><p>In this case it is an online site that provides information on how to commit suicide and support for those who are contemplating or have decided to take their own lives.</p><p><a href="https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2021/12/09/us/where-the-despairing-log-on.html"><em>The New York Times</em> earlier this month reported</a> on the site and 45 people whose deaths could be linked to it. The story pointed out that web content providers continue to have immunity from liability for third-party content, the Sec. 230 issue that has been in the forefront of Washington legislator&apos;s concerns about hate speech, discrimination, political advertising manipulation and much more.</p><p>In response Monday (Dec. 20), the bipartisan leadership of the House Energy & Commerce Committee said they have called for briefings from executives with search engines, web hosting companies, content delivery networks, and social media platforms.</p><p><a href="https://www.nexttv.com/news/surgeon-general-big-tech-has-role-in-youth-mental-health-challenges">Also: Surgeon General: Big Tech Has Role in Youth Mental Health Challenges</a></p><p>"It is imperative that companies take the threat of such sites seriously and take appropriate steps to mitigate harm," they said in a joint statement.</p><p>Joining that statement were Energy and Commerce Committee chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-N.J.) and Ranking Member Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.), Health Subcommittee chair Anna Eshoo (D-Calif.) and Ranking Member Brett Guthrie (R-Ky.), Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee chair Diana DeGette (D-Colo.) and Ranking Member Morgan Griffith (R-Va.), Communications Subcommittee chairman Mike Doyle (D-Pa.) and Ranking Member Bob Latta (R-Ohio), Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee chair Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.) and Ranking Member Gus Bilirakis (R-Fla.). ■</p>

                                <p>Netflix will debut the third season of its drama series <em>13 Seasons Why</em> on Aug. 23, the streaming service said Thursday.</p><p>According to Netflix, the series' season three synopsis is as follows: <em>Eight months after preventing Tyler from committing an unthinkable act at Spring Fling, Clay, Tony, Jessica, Alex, Justin, and Zach find ways to shoulder the burden of the cover-up together while helping Tyler move toward recovery.                                 <p>Industry executives and celebrities took to Twitter early Friday in reaction to the sudden death of CNN personality and world-renown chef Anthony Bourdain, who reportedly committed suicide.</p><figure class="van-image-figure pull-" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' ><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:56.25%;"><img id="UxXeaquTWiLTUnwNGTyUnm" name="" alt="" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/UxXeaquTWiLTUnwNGTyUnm.jpg" mos="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/UxXeaquTWiLTUnwNGTyUnm.jpg" align="" fullscreen="" width="" height="" attribution="" endorsement="" class="pull-"></p></div></div></figure><p>CNN released a statement Friday morning confirming the death of the 61 year-old Bourdain, who hosted the network’s original series <em>Parts Unknown</em> – which explored various culinary dishes and cultures from around the world -- since 2013. <em>"It is with extraordinary sadness we can confirm the death of our friend and colleague, Anthony Bourdain. His love of great adventure, new friends, fine food and drink and the remarkable stories of the world made him a unique storyteller. His talents never ceased to amaze us and we will miss him very much. Our thoughts and prayers are with his daughter and family at this incredibly difficult time."</em></p><p>Bourdain was in France working on an episode of <em>Parts Unknown</em> at the time of his death, <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2018/06/08/us/anthony-bourdain-obit/index.html">according to CNN.</a> Network president Jeff Zucker said in an email to employees that "Tony will be greatly missed not only for his work but also for the passion with which he did it,” <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2018/06/08/us/anthony-bourdain-obit/index.html">the news network reported.</a></p><p>President Trump Friday <a href="http://www.newsweek.com/donald-trump-anthony-bourdain-character-966790">morning extended his "heartfelt condolences"</a> to Bourdain's family.</p><p>Prior to his stint at CNN, Bourdain hosted the Travel Channel series <em>Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations</em> and <em>The Layover</em> and before that starred in Food Network’s series <em>A Cook’s Tour</em>. Quickly, <a href="https://twitter.com/search?q=%22RIP%20Bourdain%22&src=tren">#RIPBourdain</a> was trending on Twitter.</p><p>Social media exploded Friday with an outpouring of reactions to Bourdain’s death, with celebrities from Bryan Cranston to Christie Tiegen, to cable networks like TCM turning to Twitter to morn the loss of the charismatic author, chef and television personality.
