Netflix said Wednesday that Steve Carell will be starring alongside Tina Fey in The Four Seasons, a series remake of an eponymous 1981 comedic drama film directed and starring Alan Alda alongside Carol Burnett 

The series was first announced in January with an eight-episode order, and will be produced in partnership with Universal Television and Fey’s production company, Little Stranger, Inc.

Set to begin production later this year, The Four Seasons’ star-studded cast could be an indication that Netflix’s TV production strategy, at least on the TV series side, may not be impacted by the "serious restructuring" facing Dan Lin’s film department. Lin recently announced plans to cut down on big-name, big-budget films.

Carell, best known for his time on NBC’s hit series The Office, for which he received six consecutive Emmy nominations, has previously worked with Netflix, starring in the streamer’s comedy series Space Force.

In the 1981 film version of The Four Seasons, three married couples take a vacation together for each of the year's four seasons, but dynamics shift in middle age when one of the husbands leaves his wife for a younger woman.

Fey will co-create the series alongside Lang Fisher and Tracey Wigfield, continuing a partnership that began with the Emmy-nominated series Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.

The series will also reunite Carell and Fey, who previously worked together on the 2010 comedy feature Date Night.

Fey, Fisher and Wigfield also collaborated previously on hit series 30 Rock, for which Fey and Wigfield shared the Emmy for writing its final episode.

Alda will also produce for the series alongside Marissa Bregman, the daughter of the original film's producer, Martin Bregman.

Alda has adapted The Four Seasons once before, when in 1984 he produced a 13-episode TV series based on the movie for CBS.

FX will once again team with The Americans creators Joel Fields and Joe Weisberg on a new psychological thriller that will star Steve Carell.

The new series, The Patient, stars Carell as psychiatrist Alexander Strauss, who finds himself being held prisoner by a serial killer with an unusual request: to curb his homicidal urges, FX said. Having recently lost his wife, Strauss has yet to plumb the depths of his own pain and loss, creating a journey that is perhaps as treacherous as his captivity, said the network.  

Carell, who was nominated for 11 Emmys for his role as Michael Scott in The Office and currently appears in Apple TV Plus’s The Morning Show, will serve as executive producer of the 10-episode series along with Fields, Weisberg, Caroline Moore and Victor Hsu.

“We are excited that Joe and Joel are back with their next series for FX after the great experience of working with them on six amazing seasons of The Americans,” said FX Entertainment president Eric Schrier in a statement. “Their creative instincts and mastery of plot and character are on display again with The Patient, which will showcase Steve Carell’s remarkable talents as an actor, producer and creative collaborator.” 

Netflix sci-fi comedy Space Force, which joins The Office veterans Steve Carell, Greg Daniels and Howard Klein, begins on Netflix May 29. Netflix describes the series as a workplace comedy where “a four-star general begrudgingly teams up with an eccentric scientist to get the U.S. military’s newest agency--Space Force--ready for lift-off.”

Carell is co-creator and will star and executive produce. Space Force represents his first ongoing TV role since he departed The Office in 2011. 

Daniels, whose credits also include King of the Hill and Parks and Recreation, along with developing The Office in the U.S., is co-creator, showrunner and exec producer. Daniels also created futuristic comedy Upload on Amazon. 

Klein, co-founder of 3 Arts Entertainment and an executive producer on The Office, is executive producing Space Force as well.

The Office aired on NBC 2005-2013.

John Malkovich plays a scientist in Space Force. Noah Emmerich is a military rival to Carell’s General Mark Naird and Lisa Kudrow plays Naird’s wife. 

Apple TV+ provided a first look trailer for its new original series The Morning Show, set to debut this fall on the new streaming service.

The series stars Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon and Steve Carell, and takes an inside look at the lives of the people who help America wake up in the morning on a television news show, according to the company.

Aniston and Witherspoon also serve as executive producers on the show along with Michael Ellenberg, Kerry Ehrin and Mimi Leder
