Season four of Sex Education premieres on Netflix September 21, and it will be the final season for the teen comedy. 

Season three came out in September 2021. Laurie Nunn created the show, about Otis Milburn, an awkward secondary school student, and his single mother, Jean, a sex therapist. 

Asa Butterfield plays Otis and Gillian Anderson portrays Jean. 

Ncuiti Gatwa, Emma Mackey and Aimee Lou Wood are in the cast. Dan Levy comes on board in season four as cult author Thomas Molloy, a professor at an elite U.S. university where Maeve, played by Mackey, studies. 

Besides Maeve in America, the new season sees the Moordale Secondary students start up at Cavendish College. “It’s very progressive and woke, and it makes the Moordale students feel like they’re little fish in a big pond,” Nunn told Netflix’s Tudum of the new setting. 

The cool kids at Moordale are known as the Coven, and are played by Felix Mufti, Anthony Lexa and Alexandra James. 

Nunn said it became evident while breaking out season four that the story was coming to a close. “It just started to feel very clear that the stories were coming to an end, the characters were being left in a place that I felt really good about,” she said. “I felt happy for them, and I felt like I’ve said everything that I want to say with these characters at this time.”

Sex Education premiered in 2019. Each season has had eight episodes. 

Season three of Sex Education is on Netflix. The comedy is about Otis Milburn, a socially awkward high school student who lives with his sex therapist mother, Jean. Gillian Anderson, Asa Butterfield, Emma Mackey, Ncuti Gatwa, Aimee-Lou Wood and Connor Swindells are in the cast.

Season three sees Otis having casual sex, and Jean with a baby on the way. New headteacher Hope tries to return Moordale High School to a pillar of excellence, Aimee discovers feminism, Jackson gets a crush and a lost voicemail still looms. 

“Prepare for commitment animals, alien phenomena, vulva cupcakes and much more of Madam Groff,” teased Netflix.

The new season also introduces a non-binary student, Cal, who is played by Dua Saleh. “In the writers’ room, we discussed what parts of the LGBTQ spectrum we hadn’t addressed in the show yet, and Cal’s character was a natural extension of that discussion,” said Nunn. “We knew they’d bring a new perspective to the show, and we worked very closely with non-binary consultants to make sure we were approaching that narrative with authenticity.” 

Sex Education premiered in 2019. Eleven produces the series.

The return of several popular series mark the list of show premieres this week.

Apple TV Plus's Emmy-winning drama series The Morning Show premieres its second season on Sept. 17, along with the third season of Netflix’s dramedy series Sex Education.

Among the new shows debuting this week are Showtime’s Sept. 13 premiere of comedy series Back to Life, starring Daisy Haggard as an inmate returning to regular life, and Hulu's anthology drama series The Premise, debuting Sept. 16.

The second week of January features a bevy of new and returning show premieres from cable networks and streaming services.

Paramount network on Jan. 15 will premiere 68 Whiskey, a new drama series chronicling army medics serving in Afghanistan, while Apple TV+ on Jan. 17 launches a new family-themed series Diary of a Future President.

On the returning series front, Netflix will launch the sixth season of its comedy series Grace and Frankie on Jan. 15, while the next day  Freeform will launch the third season of grown-ish.
