Tina Fey (Mr. Mayor), Seth Meyers (Late Night) and Damon Lindelof (Watchmen) were among almost 1,800 members of the Writers Guild of America East and West from A (Megan Abbott) to Z (William Zorzi) who signed a petition in solidarity with Amazon warehouse workers in Bessemer, Alabama, who are attempting to unionize with the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU).

"We are the writers of feature films and television series. All of our work is done under union contracts whether it appears on Amazon Prime, a different streaming service, or a television network," reads the petition. "Unions protect workers with essential rights and benefits. Most importantly, a union gives employees a seat at the table to negotiate fair pay, scheduling and more workplace policies."

Fey, Meyers, and company urged the workers to vote yes.

RWDSU President Stuart Appelbaum took the opportunity of Fey's hosting of the Golden Globes Sunday night (Feb. 28) to thank her and other DGA members.

"Tina Fey will be hosting the Golden Globe Awards, but the RWDSU already thinks of her as a superstar of the labor movement. We want to thank her and the over 1,700 tv and film writers who are supporting the Amazon workers in Bessemer, Alabama in their fight to bring the first union to an Amazon warehouse.”

Seth Meyers, host of Late Night with Seth Meyers, has renewed his deal with NBC to host the program through 2025. In addition, Meyers’ and Mike Shoemaker’s production company, Sethmaker Shoemeyers Productions, has an overall deal with Universal Studio Group through 2025. 

“Seth is a rare talent who makes America laugh and think every night,” said Katie Hockmeyer, executive VP, late night programming, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming. “His ‘Closer Look’ segments are classic combinations of comedy with commentary. Seth is a brilliant stand-up comedian, interviewer and political commentator. His voice matters more now than ever.”

Sethmaker Shoemeyers Productions produces A.P. Bio and The Amber Ruffin Show, both streaming on Peacock.

Late Night has been nominated for an Emmy for outstanding writing in a variety series the last four years.

IFC shared its new programming slate at an upfront event in New York April 21, sneak-peeking eight comedies from the likes of Bryan Cranston, Hank Azaria and Sharon Horgan.

Cranston is executive producer on Todd Barth Can Help You, about a nerd who transforms himself into a self-help guru. Azaria stars in Brockmire, a Funny or Die production about a beloved baseball announcer who suffers a very public meltdown. Horgan, costar on Amazon’s Catastrophe, is starring in This Land Is Ours, about anarchist squatters in present day New York (produced by her production company Merman).

"These projects reflect our mission to make great content with cool people," said IFC president Jennifer Caserta. “At IFC, we are driven by developing smart comedy that is 'Slightly Off' and working with the very best creative forces, both in front of and behind the camera."

Seth Meyers was on hand to talk about season two of Documentary Now! Executive produced by Lorne Michaels and produced by Broadway Video, Documentary Now! returns this fall with seven new docu-spoofs showcasing the comedic talents of Bill Hader, Fred Armisen and others.
