Syfy has picked up its DC Comics-themed drama series Krypton for a second season in advance of the show’s May 23 finale, the network said Tuesday.

The series, set two generations before the destruction of Superman’s home planet Krypton, follows the Man of Steel’s grandfather as young man who is faced with a life and death conflict – save his home planet or let it be destroyed to restore the fate of his future grandson.

The first season of Krypton has averaged 1.8 million viewers on a Nielsen Live+3 basis to date, Syfy’s most watched season for any scripted series on the network since Defiance in 2015, according to network officials. The second season of Krypton is expected to return in 2019, Syfy said.

Krypton is produced by Warner Horizon Scripted Television and is executive produced by David S. Goyer (Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice) alongside Cameron Welsh, who also serves as showrunner.

TBS said it has ordered a second season of the new comedy series The Last O.G. and ordered a third season of Search Party along with signing a development deal with Search Party executive producers Sarah-Violet Bliss and Charles Rogers.

The Last O.G., starring Tracy Morgan and Tiffany Haddish, debuted on April 3 and has ranked as the top cable comedy of 2018, according to TBS. Its executive producers include Jordan Peele and the cast also includes Cedric the Entertainer.

Search Party stars Alia Shawkat, Meredith Hagner, John Early, John Reynolds and Brandon Micheal Hall and grew by double-digits in its second season, according to TBS, which also said it was the network's top series on digital and "became the fastest TBS original to reach one million views on VOD in season one."

TBS said executive producers Bliss and Rogers, who created the series with executive producer Michael Showalter, will continue to oversee Search Party while also developing and producing new projects exclusive to Turner in television and digital programming.  

Investigation Discovery (ID) has ordered a third season of People Magazine Investigates.

Produced in partnership by ID, Radley Studios and Time Inc. Productions, People Magazine Investigates draws on the true-crime reporting of People. The third season is slated to premiere in late 2018.

“We are thrilled with the success of People Magazine Investigates and our continued partnership with the editorial team at People,” said Henry Schleiff, group president of Investigation Discovery, Destination America and American Heroes Channel. “We look forward to combining stories from People’s dynamic investigative reporting team along with Radley’s unparalleled production to deliver a new season that will keep audiences riveted and engaged.”

The season two finale airs Monday (Jan. 29).

Amazon Studios has greenlit a second season of half-hour superhero comedy The Tick.

Ben Edlund created the series, and will return, as will cast leads Peter Serafinowicz as the title character and Griffin Newman as Arthur.

The second season will feature 10 episodes and is expected to premiere in 2019.

“Ben has created a resounding hit while Peter and Griffin have brought Tick and Arthur to indelible life,” said Sharon Yguado, head of scripted series, Amazon Studios. “We can’t wait to bring fans more of the Tick universe soon.”

Season one debuted on Amazon Aug. 25, 2017. The second half of season one rolls Feb. 23, with six new episodes.

Sony Pictures Television produces The Tick, along with Amazon Studios.

“I am so excited that Amazon wants to continue this wildly fruitful collaboration and that this amazing cast gets to stay together, and that we get to build this mythos further, wider, deeper, and taller,” said Edlund, creator and executive producer. “We got a good ball of mud spinning with the right tilt of axis, I'm very happy we have this opportunity to keep peopling it.”

Besides Edlund, executive producers are Barry Josephson and Barry Sonnenfeld. Josephson last summer told B&C that Amazon “seems like a really good home for us.”

An earlier version of The Tick debuted on Fox in 2001, with Patrick Warburton in the lead role. That series aired nine episodes.

Netflix said it has renewed its original series Dear White People for a second season.

Production on 10 additional episodes of the show is scheduled to begin later this year.

Dear White People is produced for Netflix by Lionsgate. The series was created and is executive produced by Justin Simien.

The show stars Logan Browning, Brandon P. Bell, Antoinette Robertson, DeRon Horton, John Patrick Amedori, Ashley Blaine Featherson and Marque Richardson.

Set in a white Ivy League university, Dear White People explores tensions in post-racial America. It is based on the 2014 film of the same name.

The series made its Netflix debut in April.

Hulu has renewed its comedy series The Mindy Project for a sixth and final season, the OTT service said Wednesday.

The series, created and starring Mindy Kaling, initially aired on Fox broadcasting for three seasons before moving to Hulu. The sixth and final season will air on Hulu in September, according to company officials. Hulu is currently streaming all five seasons of the series. 

The Mindy Project is executive produced by Kaling, Matt Warburton, Howard Klein, Charlie Grandy and Michael Spiller, and is produced by Universal Television production, in association with 3 Arts Entertainment.

Freeform has given a second season to drama Beyond, as Tom Ascheim, network president, surprised the cast and executive producers with the announcement during their TCA Winter Press Tour panel in Pasadena, Calif.

Adam Nussdorf and Tim Kring are among the exec producers on the rookie drama, which launched Jan. 2. In a break from its norm, Freeform made the entire season available for binge watching.

HBO’s three scripted fall series, Westworld, Divorce and Insecure have all been renewed for sophomore campaigns, the network said Monday.

“I am thrilled to announce the pickup of our three fall series, all of which have distinctive, original voices,” said HBO programming president Casey Bloys in a statement. “Critics and viewers alike have welcomed Westworld and Insecure, as well as the return of Sarah Jessica Parker to the network after 12 years with Divorce.”

Westworld, a takoff on the 1970’s sci-fi film of the same name, is averaging 11.7 million viewers across multiple platforms so far through its first season, ahead of both Game Of Thrones and True Detective’s performances during its first season on air, said network officials.

Insecure, stars Issa Rae and explores the contemporary black female experience in an unclichéd and authentic way, while Divorce stars Parker and Thomas Haden Church as a couple struggling to cope with their marriage falling apart.

Both shows are averaging 4.4 million and 3.2 million viewers, respectively, which is on par with other HBO half-hours like Veep and Girls, according to HBO.

DIY Network picks up a second season of its popular home renovation series Nashville Flipped, scheduled to premiere in February 2017.

Starz has greenlit two additional seasons of its original series Power days after the record-setting ratings performance of the show’s season three premiere.

The series averaged 2.26 million viewers in its third season debut this past Sunday, setting a network record for a season premiere episode and growing the season two premiere audience by more than 58%, said network officials. 

The series, which stars Omari Hardrick as a drug kingpin/turned successful nightclub owner, is executvively produced by Curtis '50 Cent" Jackson and created by Courtney Kemp (The Good Wife).

“In today’s content landscape, it is challenging for a series to stand out, but Courtney is a singular voice working in television today,” said Chris Albrecht, Starz president and CEO. “Along with our executive producers and the talented Power cast and crew, they have created one of the most distinct dramas I’ve ever had the good fortune of putting on the air. The fans have let it be known loud and clear that they cannot get enough of Ghost, Tommy, Tasha, Angela and Kanan.”

A few days after the U.K.’s Channel 4 ordered seasons three and four of comedy Catastrophe, U.S. distribution partner Amazon announced it is on board to stream the two seasons.

Season three will premiere on Amazon Prime Video in 2017 and season four in 2018. Each season features six episodes.

Catastrophe stars Sharon Horgan and Rob Delaney, who write the show as well. Playing “Sharon” and “Rob,” the two hook up while Rob is on a business trip to London and later deal with Sharon’s pregnancy. Carrie Fisher plays Rob’s mother back in the United States.

Esquire Network will bring back its freshman drama series Spotless for a second season, the men’s-targeted network announced Wednesday.

The series, which follows two brothers who get tangled up with organized crime while operating a crime scene cleaning business, launched last year as the network’s first scripted series.

“Esquire Network proudly broke the genre barriers offering a series that combined elements of danger and drama with a sharp satirical edge,” said Matt Hanna, Executive Vice President of Original Programming for Esquire Network in a statement. “We are thrilled to once again partner with Tandem Productions and look forward to the wild ride of season two as we continue to gain momentum as a network and reach new heights.”

TBS has greenlit a new season of its freshman comedy The Detour days before the series premiere.

The Samantha Bee and Jason Jones-produced series, which follows the trials and tribulations of a family vacation, is set to debut on TBS on Monday (April 11). TBS aired a sneak preview of the series immediately after ths past Monday’s telecast of the NCAA College Basketball Tournament.

TBS said it will make the The Detour pilot available to stream on The Detour Facebook page, TBS's YouTube channel, TBS.com, TBS On Demand and the Watch TBS mobile app, as well as on TV providers' sites and apps.

The series, which is exeutively produced by Bee, Jason Jones, Brennan Shroff and Tony Hernandez, stars Jones as well as Natalie Zea, Ashley Gerasimovich and Liam Carroll.

"Jason and Sam's vision and execution of the first season was original and unexpected at every ridiculous turn," said Brett Weitz, executive vice president of original programming for TBS in a statement. "Having Jason as executive producer, director and star really brought a definition to the voice of the characters and a realism to this family."

Travel Channel said Thursday that it has greenlit a fourth season of its series Bizarre Foods: Delicious Destinations.

The Andrew Zimmern-hosted and produced series has posted a 21% viewer growth in its currently running third season among adults 25-54 compared to the previous season, according to the network.

“Bizarre Foods: Delicious Destinations is a fun, culinary escape that answers the ubiquitous question that we all have while traveling…‘where do we get a good meal around here?' ” said Courtney White, senior vice president, programming and production, Travel Channel, in a release. "Andrew’s culinary expertise and magnetic personality make him the perfect expert to guide us through the must-eat dishes in the most exciting cities on the planet.”

Master of None, the rookie comedy series from Aziz Ansari, will return for season two on Netflix in 2017.

Ansari tweeted the news, saying, “Master of None Season 2 coming 2017. Thanks for all the support everyone!!”

HBO Wednesday (Jan. 6) made it official that it has greenlit a sixth and final season of comedy series Girls.

The series, created and produced by Lena Dunham, will launch its fifth season on Feb. 21, according to network officials.

Earlier in the week reports surfaced that the series, about the lives of a group of women in their 20’s, would end its run after a sixth season. Girls is executively produced by Dunham, Judd Apatow, Jenni Konner, Ilene S. Landress, Murray Miller and Bruce Eric Kaplan.

 “Lena Dunham and her brilliant collaborators, including Judd Apatow and Jenni Konner, have given HBO a signature series of rare wit and intelligence,” Michael Lombardo, president, HBO Programming. “They are exceptional talents, and I can’t wait to see what Lena, Jenni and Judd have in store for the final seasons of this unique show, and look forward to working with them on future projects.”

Added Dunham: “I can’t imagine a more fulfilling creative experience than Girls. The freedom and support that HBO has given Jenni, Judd and me is something rare and beautiful. The commitment and originality of our actors has been stunning, and our crew is truly my family. The Netflix drama Narcos has picked up a second-season renewal less than a week after its premiere.

Over-the-top service Netflix shared the news not with a press release but with a short video clip posted to Twitter. The tweet said, “Coming soon. #Narcos,” while the attached video showed an x-rayed briefcase with “Season 2” in it.

Netflix has confirmed that Adam Fierro will be the season two showrunner and executive producer, with Jose Padilha and Eric Newman on as exec producers.

Starz has greenlit a third season of its basketball-themed series Survivor’s Remorse, the network said Wednesday.

The series, about a young basketball star and his family adjusting to the life of the rich and famous, will return in 2016, according to network officials.

Currently in the midst of its second season run, the series posted an 18% week over week audience gain in its second episode with a series-high 1.34 million viewers, said network officials.

Survivor's Remorse, which stars Jessie T. Usher, Mike Epps, Tichina Arnold, Teyonah Parris and Erica Ash, is executively produced by Tom Werner, Maverick Carter, LeBron James, Mike O’Malley, Paul Wachter and Vic Levin.

“We are thrilled to renew Survivor’s Remorse for a third season,” said Carmi Zlotnik, Managing Director of Starz, in a statement. “Since it began, the critics instantly embraced the show, and now we’ve seen its fans grow season over season. This all-star creative team, led expertly by Mike O’Malley, boldly tackles the most topical of issues with heart and humor as the Calloway family deals with ‘pro-money and pro-problems’ off the basketball court. We are very happy and proud to have them return to Starz for another season.”

GSN said it has picked up a 10-episode third season of Skin Wars, the bodypainting competition series.

The network said the show, hosted by Rebecca Romijn (who will return), remains GSN's top-rated series, attracting more than 12 million viewers to the current season. The recent season finale had more than 1.1 million viewers, per GSN, citing Nielsen. GSN also said the show has more than doubled (+125%) the year-to-date time period average with total viewers and delivered its most-watched episode ever for the franchise in key demos women 18-49, women 25-54 and persons 25-54 on a Live+3 basis. The success of the series has been key in putting GSN on pace for both its best year and summer ever, as it is currently up 24% in prime time (8-11 p.m.) over a year ago and up 30% over last summer in total viewers, the network said. 

Along with Romijn, returning judges for season three include RuPaul Charles and body painting experts Craig Tracy and Robin Slonina. In season three, 12 artists will compete for $100,000 and additional prizes to be announced.

“Skin Wars has been an integral part of introducing GSN to millions of new, younger viewers and has truly become a game changer for us,” Amy Introcaso-Davis, executive vice president of programming at GSN, said in a release. “The success of the show has also provided us a great platform to showcase new series, as evidenced by the strong debut of Steampunk'd last week, which was one of our top-rated new series launches.”

Skin Wars is executive produced by Michael Levitt of Michael Levitt Productions, Jill Goularte, Colleen Sands and Rebecca Romijn. Craig Tracy and Robin Slonina serve as producers.

Black plays a Shane Smith-like host of a Vice-like gonzo news show in the second episode, Dronez: The Hunt for El Chingon, which is playing now on Vice.com and numerous other platforms, including IFC.com, YouTube, Dish channel 102 and IFC’s TV-everywhere extensions. Dame Helen Mirren solemnly introduces each episode.

Less than two weeks after the premiere of Last Week Tonight With John Oliver's sophomore season, HBO said it has ordered two more seasons of the satirical news series.

The renewal also comes just as Comedy Central has begun its search to replace The Daily Show's Jon Stewart, who last week announced he would be leaving the show by the end of the year.

HBO said Season 3 of Last Week Tonight will run in 2016, while season 4 will follow the next year; each will run 35 episodes. Season 2 debuted on Feb. 8.

The show's freshman season, which concluded last November and landed on numerous "Best of 2014" lists, won a Writers Guild Award on Saturday (Feb. 14) in the category of Comedy/Variety (Including Talk) – Series.
