Fox Nation premieres the comedy special Roseanne Barr: Cancel This! Monday, February 13. The one-hour program marks Barr’s first stand-up comedy special in nearly 20 years, Fox Nation said.

The special was filmed at the Cullen Theatre in Houston. It “features Ms. Barr’s signature comedic take on a variety of topics, from her experiences growing up Jewish in the Mormon citadel of Salt Lake City, moving to Texas, and raising her privileged brood,” Fox Nation said. 

The streaming network will also release Who Is Roseanne Barr?, which it calls “an in-depth look inside the life and career of Ms. Barr.”

Barr knows about being cancelled. ABC canceled comedy Roseanne in 2018, not long after Barr made comments on Twitter that many deemed to be racist. Barr apologized. 

Roseanne was on ABC from 1988 to 1997, then came back in 2018. After its cancellation, ABC reworked the show, without Barr, calling it The Conners. The spinoff has had five seasons. ■

Fox Nation will stream the Roseanne Barr standup special A Roseanne Comedy Special in the first quarter of 2023. Fox Nation said it is Barr’s first comedy special in 16 years, and added that it will see “no subject off limits.” 

“Roseanne is a comedy icon whose humor connects with the American audience like no other,” said Jason Klarman, Fox Nation president. “Her ability to channel the challenges of everyday people and find the humor in it all has earned her the passionate following of millions of dedicated fans. We are thrilled to add her comedy special exclusively to the Fox Nation catalog.”

Barr starred in Roseanne, which was on ABC from 1988 to 1997. From 1998 to 2000, she hosted talk show The Roseanne Show. She’s also had comedy specials on HBO. Roseanne was brought back on ABC in 2018, but was cancelled after a controversial tweet from Barr, which saw her make fun of Valerie Jarrett, an adviser to President Barack Obama, with language that many deemed to be racist. Channing Dungey, then-ABC Entertainment president, called Barr’s tweet “abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent” with the network’s values.

Spinoff The Conners, which featured the cast of Roseanne without Barr, debuted later in 2018. A new season of the comedy premieres September 21. ■

ABC broadcast network did not waste any time canceling its popular comedy series Roseanne,pulling the plug on the show's second season hours after series star Roseanne Barr's racially insensitive Twitter tirade earlier this morning. 

ABC Entertainment chief Channing Dungey announced in a statement Tuesday afternoon: "Roseanne's Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show."

Barr’'s controversial Twitter remarks were directed at former President Barack Obama’s adviser Valerie Jarrett -- an African-American woman -- whom Barr referred to as the progeny of the “Muslim Brotherhood &  Planet of The Apes.”

Barr, who is no stranger to Twitter controversy, pulled the Tweet and quickly apologized, adding that she was leaving Twitter.

But that wasn't enough for ABC, who ultimately cancelled the series.  Disney chairman and CEO Robert Iger in a tweet called the move to cancel the series "the right thing" to do.

The National Association for The Advancement Of Colored People also responded to Roseanne's cancellation, with NAACP President and CEO Derrick Johnson saying in a statement: “Roseanne Barr’s comments were appalling and reminiscent of horrific time in our history when racism was not only acceptable but promoted by Hollywood. We applaud ABC for taking a stand against racism by canceling Roseanne today. We commend the network and its president Channing Dungey for placing the values of diversity, inclusion and respect for humanity above ratings.” 

The decision comes as Roseanne – which drew a lot of viewers and media attention earlier this year – was already set to return for a second season. 

Prior to Roseanne being cancelled, actress Wanda Sykes -- who had been a consultant to the show -- sent out a tweet confirming that she would not be returning to the sitcom.
