                                <p>NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises said it has launched a new Hispanic streaming division that will create content that will mostly live on <a href="https://www.nexttv.com/news/comcasts-peacock-streaming-service-created-from-traditional-tvs-winning-recipe">Peacock</a>, NBCU’s streaming service.</p><figure class="van-image-figure pull-right inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:546px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:133.33%;"><img id="iwjz9zf7pSKQpxRTy6prgG" name="Romina Rosado.jpg" alt="Romina Rosado NBCUniversal Telemundo" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/iwjz9zf7pSKQpxRTy6prgG.jpg" mos="" align="right" fullscreen="" width="546" height="728" attribution="" endorsement="" class="pull-right"></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class="pull-right inline-layout"><span class="caption-text">Romina Rosado </span><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises)</span></figcaption></figure><p>The new streaming division is developing more than 50 streaming projects that will start airing in 2022.</p><p>Romina Rosado, was named executive VP and general manager, Hispanic streaming at <a href="https://www.nexttv.com/tag/telemundo">Telemundo</a>, reporting directly to Beau Ferrari, chairman of NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises. Rosado, who had been executive VP, entertainment & content strategy, joined Telemundo in 2018 from NBCU&apos;s E! cable network.</p><p>Peacock got off to a slow start, but, thanks in part to the Olympics, signups for the streaming network have risen to 54 million. Rosado told <em>Broadcasting+Cable</em> that the proportion of Hispanics on Peacock matches the demos of the country at about 18% to 19%.</p><p>“Latinos are going to be a key part of the growth of Peacock,” she said. “We look forward to bringing some of these more diverse stories to Peacock and being in the Forefront of a great screaming success.”</p><p>Rosado said both scripted and non-scripted projects are on the slate.</p><p>The first original scripted series for Peacock from Telemundo is the dramedy <em>Armas de Mujer</em>, starring Kate del Castillo, Roselyn Sanchez, Sylvia Sáenz and Jeimy Osorio, which was announced last year. A second, unnamed scripted series, is also in the works, Rosado said.</p><p>Telemundo Streaming is also working on reality shows, documentaries and docu-series. "Which we think is a big opportunity, especially in Hispanic space because there&apos;s not a lot of unscripted there," she said.</p><p>Some of these series will be produced by Telemundo Streaming Studios, which was launched earlier this year.</p><p>Media companies have been focusing on streaming to counter cord-cutting and establish a more direct connection with their viewers. The shift to streaming accelerated during the pandemic.</p><p>Rosado said that streaming is particularly important to Telemundo because the Hispanic market has a growing number of young viewers.</p><p>“What we want to do is create really original content for this audience,” she said. “Given that it&apos;s such a growth audience, they need to be provided with more custom content that speaks to them.”</p><p>Telemundo has been streaming shows like <em>100 Días para Enamorarnos </em>and <em>La Reina del Sur</em> on its app for several years. Shows from Telemundo’s library have also been available on Hulu and Netflix.</p><p>Going forward, “we’ll be working very closely with Peacock, especially for some of these originals we’re developing. They will be on Peacock,” Rosado said.</p><p>She will also work closely with Telemundo Entertainment to determine if some shows also belong on Telemundo’s linear network or on other NBCU streaming platforms.</p><p>Earlier this year, <a href="https://www.nexttv.com/news/univision-launches-ad-supported-streaming-service-prendetv">Univision launched a Spanish-language streaming service, PrendeTV</a>. Rather than create a streaming service for Hispanics, NBCU and Telemundo have decided to make Peacock the home of their content for Latin viewers. </p><p><a href="https://www.nexttv.com/news/peacock-pulls-in-dollar500-million-during-record-nbcu-upfront">Also Read: Peacock Pulls In $500 Million During Record NBCU Upfront</a></p><p>Telemundo is focused on viewers it calls "200% ers because they are 100% Latino and 100% American."</p><p>“We think that this consumer is not just consuming one thing. They are interested in the Olympics, they are interested in English Premier League and in <em>Yellowstone</em>. So, we actually think that it benefits the Latino content to be in the midst of Peacock,” Rosado said. </p><p>At some point there is going to be consolidation of streaming and Peacock offers the broadest possible offering, she added.</p><p>At the same time, the shows Telemundo is creating for streaming will have cross-over appeal. "You don&apos;t have to be Latino, you don&apos;t have to speak Spanish to enjoy that content," Rosado said. </p><p>Only some of the Telemundo content will be in Spanish. Some will be in English. Some will be bi-lingual.</p><p>“We don’t think language really matters,” she said, pointing to all the shows on Netflix American audiences are watching that were produced in other countries and in other languages.</p><p>“It all depends on the project and the storytelling,” she said.</p>

                                <p>Romina Rosado is arguably among the most influential executives in Spanish-language television today, in charge of organizing NBCUniversal-owned Telemundo’s programming content across linear, social and streaming platforms. </p><p>“Romina is a seasoned executive that deeply understands the Latino audience and their evolving media consumption habits,” said NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises president of entertainment and content strategy Ronald Day. “Her expertise in the omnichannel media space makes her the perfect leader to oversee our content strategy across all platforms.” </p><p>One would assume that an executive with such an impressive pedigree would have spent many years in entertainment, but Rosado’s industry journey only began a little over a decade ago.</p><p>Growing up in Northern Germany — her parents are from Spain — she had no Hollywood aspirations. “I didn’t even know that was a career option for me,” she said. </p><p><a href="https://www.nexttv.com/features/wonder-women-los-angeles-shining-bright-in-the-hollywood-spotlight">Wonder Women Los Angeles: Shining Bright in the Hollywood Spotlight</a></p><p>Recognizing the value of learning English (Rosado is fluent in four languages), her parents had sent her to the United States every summer. At 16, she stayed with a family in Los Angeles, a city she would call home two decades later. Her career began in London, though, as a public relations executive in 2000. </p><p>She set her sights on moving to the U.S. in 2001. “I was supposed to move to New York on the day 9/11 happened,” Rosado said. “After that horrible event, I didn’t actually move until March 2002.”</p><div><blockquote><p>Insert Throughout my career, what I like to do is I like to figure things out. I like taking on complex solutions and then putting them together.”</p><p>Romina Rosado</p></blockquote></div><p>Seven years later, Rosado got her first taste of show business. In 2009, she said, a former colleague persuaded her to take a job at Wenner Media’s <em>US Weekly</em>, running the entertainment publication’s digital business. </p><p>“I had no idea about entertainment,” Rosado said. “I didn’t know who Kim Kardashian was.” </p><p>The digital platform was still in its infancy, but Rosado said she took on the challenge and grew along with it. “The market started changing really quickly, and I’m actually proud of what I was able to do there,” she said. </p><p>Her success and perserverance caught the attention of NBCUniversal, which lured her to Los Angeles in 2012 to be VP of E! Online. Three years later, Rosado would ascend to senior VP of global content, overseeing all E! news and branded content creation across all platforms. </p><p>In 2018, then-Telemundo chairman Cesar Conde approached Rosado to head up digital news for the Spanish-language network. “Then last year [Telemundo] basically said, ‘Content is content, so we want to move you and your entire team into programming,’ ” she said. “That’s the role that I do now: Thinking about content regardless of what platform it ends up on.”</p><p>Added Day: “She lives and breathes our content and makes sure her team keeps our audiences’ needs and preferences at the forefront of our programming efforts.”</p><h2 id="up-for-a-challenge">Up for a Challenge</h2><p>Throughout her career, Rosado said, she’s always believed in her abilities and never shied away from challenges. Going forward, she looks forward to further challenging herself within the entertainment world. </p><p>“In the short- to medium-term, I’m very excited about the opportunities in streaming, obviously with Peacock and other streaming services,” she said. “Throughout my career, what I like to do is I like to figure things out. I like taking on complex solutions and then putting them together. The media industry as a whole right now is in a pivotal and interesting time, for good and bad, and that motivates me every day to figure it out.”</p><p>Rosado is also passionate about mentoring the next generation of female executives. Young women today should explore as many career opportunities as they can, she said, including those they may not have thought about previously. </p><p>“Always stay very open to any possibility,” Rosado said. “I see a lot of people make the mistake of getting hung up on what it is they think they want to do. I think it’s super-important to be curious about the world.” </p>

After less than two years under his tutelage, Tom handed me the keys to his BD team.”</p><p><strong>BEST ADVICE EVER RECEIVED:</strong> “Never take a job for the money, but for what you can learn.”</p><p><strong>VANESSA DENNIS<br/></strong>Director, Product, <em>PBS NewsHour</em></p><p><strong>WHY WE’RE WATCHING:</strong> Vanessa Dennis is <em>PBS NewsHour</em>’s wonder woman in live streaming, playing a pivotal role in helping the organization become one of the biggest producers of live news streams across the internet. Whether she’s troubleshooting new captioning technologies, developing ultra-fast workflows for streaming breaking news or traveling to stream news and events from remote locations with shaky connectivity, she has always has a solution. She was an early proponent of live streaming at the program and advocated building an infrastructure to support video that now enables it to reach hundreds of millions of live streaming views per year. Beyond her contributions to daily success on streaming platforms, she keeps <em>PBS NewsHour</em> staff on top of the latest technologies, orchestrating tests, creating new workflows and constantly improving its suite of streaming products.
