KVVU-TV, Meredith’s Fox affiliate in Las Vegas, has been named the official broadcast home of the NFL Raiders, which are moving to Sin City this season.

Under the multi-year agreement KVVU gets exclusive market rights to carry Raiders pre-season games. During the regular season, the station will exclusively air the Raiders’ post-game shows and coach John Gruden’s week press conferences.

KVVU will also air a Las Vegas Raiders season preview show.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

Much of the original programming airing on KVVU FOX5 will be created in the Raiders brand-new Cox Studios located in Henderson, Nev. at the team’s Intermountain Healthcare Performance Center.

“Fox 5 is thrilled to extend our Raiders partnership as their official broadcast home this inaugural year in Las Vegas and years beyond.” said Michael Korr, VP and general manager of KVVU. “We will continue to provide the most in-depth Raider news and coverage, in addition to pre-season games, press conferences and post-game shows as we finally get to enjoy Raiders football in Las Vegas.”

KVVU originally signed up with the Raiders in 2017, when the team announced plans to move from Oakland to Las Vegas.

“The Raiders are excited to continue our partnership with Fox 5 as the team’s official broadcast home in Las Vegas,” said Raiders president Marc Badain. “Together we remain committed to providing the best Raiders content and coverage to Raiders fans in Southern Nevada and throughout the Raider Nation.”

The station and the team said they plan to continue their community outreach partnership by creating new community-wide initiatives and programs that support and strengthen the Southern Nevada communities. 

Cox Communications said it has reached a retransmission consent agreement with Midwest Television, the parent of CBS affiliate KFMB in San Diego, after the station went dark for 4 ½ hours on Dec. 16 over a fee impasse.

In a brief statement Friday, Cox said it had reached a deal with Midwest and that programming would return to its customers. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

“We regret the recent disruption in service and appreciate our customers' patience and support as we sought to reach an agreement reasonable to our business and our customers,” Cox said in the statement.

On KFMB’s we site, it too confirmed that a deal had been reached at about 4:30 p.m. The station returned in plenty of time for Cox subscribers in the area to watch Sunday’s National Football League contest between the San Diego Chargers and Oakland Raiders. (Oakland won, 19-16).

“GREAT NEWS! Thank you for your patience and for your continued support of CBS 8 here in San Diego. We are pleased to announce that CBS 8 programming is now available on Cox Cable!,” KFMB said on its website. 

 The two appeared to be ready to fight this one out for the long haul, with Cox claiming at about 12:00 p.m. on Dec. 16 that the station went dark after KFMB demanded a 1,000% increase in retrans fees. 

KFMB has a history as a tough negotiator. Last year the station went dark for three weeks to DirecTV customers.

Add stadium hunter to Disney chief Bob Iger’s long list of duties.

The Disney chairman and CEO has agreed to serve as non-executive chairman of Carson Holdings, a joint venture of the National Football League Oakland Raiders and San Diego Chargers to build a new stadium in Carson, Calif., about 15 miles  south of Los Angeles.

As non-executive chairman, Iger would be the project’s strategic leader, would select a president for Carson and would have the option of acquiring a minority ownership stake in either team. Iger has agreed not to exercise that option until he is no longer Disney chairman and CEO.

Iger will remain chairman and CEO of Disney and his agreement with Carson Holdings – a five-year stint at a salary of $1 per year with an automatic two-year renewal – stipulates that he will not be involved in any dealings that would conflict with his duties at Disney. Iger signed an extension to his Disney employment contract in October, making him chairman and CEO through June 30, 2018.   At that time, the Disney board would select a new CEO, most likely chief operating officer Thomas Staggs, named to that position in February, who appears to be Iger’s choice for a successor.

In February, the Raiders and Chargers proposed building a $1.7 billion stadium in Carson should they not get a stadium deal in their home markets. The Carson project is in competition with St. Louis Rams owner Stan Kroenke’s $1.86 billion stadium proposal in nearby Inglewood.

The news of Iger’s appointment comes as the cities of Oakland, St. Louis and San Diego make their pitch at NFL headquarters in New York today [Nov. 11] to keep the teams in their respective areas.
